I am seated in the courtroom. The defense is seated differently today, they have more people with them (Dru Nielsen, Iris Eytan +3). #BarryMorphew has not been seated yet. ALL 3 witnesses who have been called to testify already are seated behind the prosecution table.

Court has started with a continuation of the cross-examination of retired FBI Agent Jonny Grusin by Defense Attorney Dru Nielsen.

Stephanie (Butzer) Rose
@stephaniebutzer
Second stop was at a hotel. Grusin confirms Barry said he was waiting for somebody to let him in so he could get a free breakfast. The exit/entrance to the hotel has trash can near it. Barry never said he threw trash away here, Grusin confirms.

Nielsen: (paraphrased) The needle is what is used to inject a dart with tranquilizer. A needle is not a tranquilizer dart. What was found in the dryer is not a tranquilizer dart cap. The one found in Barry’s garage was empty. The darts don’t come with any fluid in them
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
Dart doesn't come with fluid or chemicals in them. You have to buy that separately. Nielsen is showing how someone has to inject into the dart the chemicals.
Ashley Franco
@AshleyKKTV
Nielsen argues the cap found in the dryer was not from a tranquilizer dart but from the needle used to inject the dart with chemicals. She asks Agent Grusing about this- he affirms that she is correct in saying they did not technically find a tranquilizer dart cap.

What is your theory of the missing 18 miles
Barry turned left instead of right on highway 50 on May 10. Agents met with Barry and asked him which way he turned. Right - salida and Broomfield
Left - where the helmet would he dropped
Crime Talk with Scott Reisch
@CrimeTalkPod
March 2021 - Barry says he turned left. He said he saw elk/elk antlers and wanted to follow it.
Ashley Franco
@AshleyKKTV
The prosecution is in re-direct now. Starting off with the morning of May 10th. #BarryMorphew was tracked turning left onto HWY 50 close to where #SuzanneMorphew helmet was found. He admitted turning left to agents. Right turn would take him to Broomfield and Salida.
@KKTV11News
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
Grusing was asked about the 18-19 miles that were missing from #Barrymorphew odometer in his truck. Nielsen is talking about where Salida Stove and Spa is located and asked if it is a coincidence if the location to the spa is the same amount of missing miles, "No," Grusing said.

Talk now in redirect over whether #BarryMorphew turned right toward Salida or left toward the mountains on the morning of May 10th, 2020. Morphew said he turned left away from Salida to follow a bull elk to see when it sheds its horns.
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
The state is redirecting questions. Agent Grusing says when they asked #BarryMorphew if he turned left or right on Hwy 50 when he left the morning of May 10, Barry allegedly said left in an interview in March 2021.
Stephanie (Butzer) Rose
@stephaniebutzer
Now we're on to the redirect with DA Jeff Lindsey.
May 10 morning: Barry turned left instead of right (right = direction of Salida & Broomfield) on Hwy 50.
Stephanie (Butzer) Rose
@stephaniebutzer
Grusing says Barry told him it was b/c he saw elk and wanted to see if they were shedding antlers. Barry said he went to Garfield turnaround and then onto Salida. Barry told Grusing this may have been around 4:30 a.m.
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
Grusing said if he turned right he would be heading towards Salida and Broomfield and if he turned left it would take him to where the helmet was found near Hwy 50 in Chaffee County.
#BarryMorphew prelim hearing day 3.
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
#BarryMorphew also told investigators that he had seen a bull elk and a herd of elk crossing the street and wanted to see when they would be shedding their antlers (reason why he turned left, according to Grusing).
Stephanie (Butzer) Rose
@stephaniebutzer
Going left would have taken him in the direction of where Suzanne's helmet was found.

Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
Agent Grusing is talking about when #BarryMorphew could have had time to dispose of a body on May 9 into 10. He told the judge Morphew had six hours to dispose of a body which could mean at least a 3 hour round trip

@AshleyKKTV
Prosecution asks Grusing if it's possible #BarryMorphew was throwing away a vial of tranquilizer chemicals. Grusing says there's no telling because you can't see.
Jamie Leary
@JamieALeary
Investigator clarifies, in dryer, it was a needle sheath for a tranq dart gun- not a "dart cap". He says #BarryMorphew said he shoots deer w/ the tranq gun so he can gets their horns. Says he shot 2 deer, just for horns, in 4/2020. They wake up w/ no horns and run off.
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
Grusing is answering questions about #BarryMorphew talking about shooting chipmunks around the home on May 9. "I shoot chipmunks. So when I am home I go around the house and when I see another I’ll shoot it," Barry had said in an interview allegedly shot the chipmunks with a 22.
Stephanie (Butzer) Rose
@stephaniebutzer
DA Lindsey: A drive from Salida to Broomfield is ~3 hours. Barry's phone was in airplane mode from 10:17 p.m. May 9 - 4:30 a.m. May 10. Is that enough time to dispose of a body if driving from Puma Path to Broomfield?
"It is," Grusing says
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
#BarryMorphew allegedly told investigators that he last used his tranquilizer gun to shoot a deer in late April of 2020 to get their horn. "I’m telling you, telling you right now... to get horns. They go to sleep, I remove their horns. They go off with no horns on their head.”

@stephaniebutzer
Regarding the trash runs, DA Lindsey confirms the "cap" found in the dryer was a needle sheath.
When asked about the dart, Barry said he shoots deer from his garage/breezeway. He said he last used it April 2020.
Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV
From May 5-9, 2020 the FBI said they could NOT get everything off of #BarryMorphew phone that he had deleted. The state asked, "Is it possible if Barry could have been tracking Suzanne?" Agent Grusing said, "Yes."

@LaurenScharfTV
On May 8, #BarryMorphew allegedly brought up moving to Arizona. Grusing said this was the first time this was ever mentioned and Suzanne thought it was strange. She was looking at homes for sale in Salida, CO according to text messages.

@AshleyKKTV
Agents asked #BarryMorphew about tranquilizer needle sheath in dryer at Morphew residence. He again says it has nothing to do with him but he hates that it was found there because it "makes him look bad" and rumors are spreading in Chaffee County so "no wonder people hate me"
