YERINGTON, Nev. (KOLO) -A woman reported missing to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Offfice on April 15 was found dead May 22 in remote Churchill County, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the body was that of Sara Arlene Filiatraut, 25, of Michigan.

The cause of death has not been confirmed, but it’s being treated as a homicide.

Filiatraut was last known to be in Yerington on March 21. LCSO began looking for her after she was reported missing but could not find her.

LCSO did not give details on the location of the body.

On April 15th the Lyon County Sheriff's Office was given information about 25-year-old Sara Arlene Filiatraut, who was the subject of a missing person report filed in Michigan.

That report said her last known location was in Lyon County on March 21st.

Authorities investigated for around five weeks before discovering the remains of Filiatraut in a remote part of Churchill County.

Churchill County Sheriff's Office detectives and members of Churchill County Search and Rescue helped Lyon County Sheriff's Office detectives with their search.

Human Remains Found in Churchill County Identified as Missing Lyon County Woman

On April 15, 2024 the Lyon County Sheriff's Office received information regarding a missing person report filed in the State of Michigan for 25 year old Sara Arlene Filiatraut. Ms. Filiatraut was reported missing by her family, who reported her last known location to be in Lyon County on March 21, 2024. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Investigations Division, immediately began investigating this case and made locating Ms. Filiatraut their top priority. Over the course of approximately 5 weeks, Detectives followed up on numerous investigative leads, all the while hoping to find Ms. Filiatraut alive and well.

On May 22, 2024, working on information gained during the investigation, Detectives from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, along with Detectives from the Churchill County Sheriff's Office, and members of Churchill County Search and Rescue, began a search in a remote area of Churchill County. During this search, the remains of a deceased female were located. As the remains were located in Churchill County, the Churchill County Sheriff's Office began a death investigation.

On May 23, 2024 the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office positively identified the remains as Ms. Filiatraut. Final autopsy findings are currently pending; however, law enforcement is investigating this case as a homicide.

Both the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and Churchill County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Forensic Investigation Section, are currently investigating this case. In an effort to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

Very little out there to be found on Sara, which makes me sad. She is said to be from Michigan, but has a few criminal records in Alaska between 2018-2021.

I wonder what brought her to Yerington, NV area?

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A man is facing a first degree murder charge in the death of 25-year-old Sara Filiatraut.

39-year-old Robert Richards of Saratoga Springs, Utah was reportedly identified early on as a suspect in her death. According to the sheriff’s office, Richards was working and staying in Fernely around the time Filiatraut went missing, then left the state a short time later.
