I'm guessing the mother doesn't want to be reunited but I guess it's possible someone else left the baby there.

It’s possible, but with a newborn I think more likely a young mother who has kept her pregnancy secret :(

This is awful and I hope baby Roman is ok. There was a similar case in Leeds a couple of years ago where the baby sadly died, and they've still not found his mother.

Baby looked okay--recovering--in the photo I saw of her on the BBC news website. I am so relieved someone found her before she froze to death! Poor little thing :(

What a miracle she was found. After ten o'clock at night on one of the coldest nights we've had in the UK. She is looking fine in the BBC photos though thank goodness.
Bless the woman who found her.

Poor little mite! I'm so glad she is okay, seems she wasn't out there for too long.

Hopefully they can find the person who left Roman there on CCTV when they entered and exited the park.

I wonder why LE thinks the mother might need medical attention? How would they come to this conclusion?

From bbc article linked above:

"Detectives say they are growing "increasingly concerned" for the mother, who may be "in need of urgent medical attention". "

I've seen that appeal in articles about abandoned newborns before; they're concerned for the mother's health since she likely delivered the baby in a non-medical setting and she could be suffering from complications after delivering.

The baby has likely been left in the park because there is less chance of being caught on CCTV than at a hospital or police station, the mother must have been desperate not to be caught or tracked down. Though she is lucky not to be facing a murder or manslaughter charge, she will need help medically and/or mentally but my money's on her being terrified of her family finding out.

Charges might yet happen if they can ID her. they brought charges in a case where a baby was left overnight on a priest’s doorstep in Reading a few years ago, on the grounds that baby was put at risk, and I don’t think it was this cold as it was in May, and there were indications of care for baby and the clear intention she should be found whoch I don’t see in This case.

Wow!
ANOTHER dog answering the call of nature helps save the day.
I hope this tiny baby survives and gets to be loved by someone special.

I would hope that they would take into consideration whether the baby was abandoned due to a fear/mental health crisis or if it was a more wilful criminal act happening.

I think it's a good idea for the female who gave birth to seek medical attention and make sure that there's no risk of infection to her or if she needs some stitches. And she can get mental health support if needed and there can be a group decision made, between her and social services as to whether reunification is a reasonable way forward or if she wants to sign for the baby to go straight into adoption processes. IMHO I would like to see baby asap in a loving home and getting love and care from a good mum/dad whether there's a bio connection or not.

Baby Roman, 2019

A newborn baby found earlier this year in Newham, east London, is the third child abandoned by the same parents, the BBC can report.
DNA tests presented to the East London Family Court established that “Baby Elsa” is the sibling of two babies, a boy and a girl, found in very similar circumstances in 2017 and 2019.
Despite appeals by the Metropolitan Police, their parents have not been identified.
Snip
also been abandoned after birth in the same area of London.
They had been wrapped in blankets. One was also inside a bag.
Family Court documents stated Baby Elsa still had her umbilical cord, and doctors estimate she had been born only an hour before.

I wonder if they are using geographic profiling. IMO she lives in the area of 2 and 3. I thought maybe she was young but imo she’s no longer what I would consider young after seven years.

There must be something terrible going on with the parents.

I wonder if they are in some kind of modern slavery situation? I can't think of any other situation where there would be no family or social network to notice three term pregnancies that come to nothing. A normal such network would, surely, include at least one person who would ask questions and raise the alarm?

This is really disturbing and unfortunately probably paints a pretty dark picture of Mum’s home life. IMOO.

Yes, with 3 cases of full! siblings I am not sure the Mum is the one in control of the situation and making the decision to abandon them...

I agree. Something is going on and I hope they're able to figure out who the parents are because I have a sinking feeling the mother is in danger and is being abused.

Just all MOO

Yes, very disturbing. Especially considering this is the 3rd time by the same set of parents. What is going on in this woman's life?

Such a strange set of circumstances! Obviously something very mentally wrong with the parents.

''Officers believe a woman seen in the area just before Elsa was found may have vital information.

She was wearing a large dark-coloured coat with a light-coloured scarf or hood around her neck, and was carrying a rucksack.''

“The abandonment of a baby in this country is a very, very unusual event and there are years where there are no children abandoned, and because of that it is the story of the abandoning of a child that is of public interest.”
