UPDATE: District attorney says Bedford woman, 24, fatally shot both of her parents​

BEDFORD — Authorities say a local woman shot and killed both of her parents in a car earlier today.

Jessica Cavallaro, 24, was expected to be arraigned today in Concord District Court, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

During a press conference near the scene of the crime on Washington Street, Ryan said the shooting occurred about 9 a.m. A resident of Washington Street who lives with Cavallaro called 911 to report the incident.

"That resident reported that the young woman (Cavallaro) who resides in the home had come back in the house and reported she had shot her parents," Ryan said.

Woman Charged in Connection with Double Shooting in Bedford​

BEDFORD – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Bedford Chief of Police John Fisher have confirmed that Jessica Cavallaro, 24, of Bedford has been charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and illegal possession of a firearm in the alleged shooting of her parents this morning on Washington Street in Bedford.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Bedford Police received a call from a Washington Street resident who reported that the defendant had allegedly told them that she had shot her parents in a car outside. Upon arrival, police located the defendant’s mother, a 56 year old Bedford woman, dead inside a car on the lawn of an adjacent Washinton Street home. The defendant’s father, a 56 year old Bedford man, was transported to an area hospital where he later died. The firearm was also recovered.

Jessica Cavallaro was arrested on scene without incident and will be arraigned in Concord District Court later today.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Bedford Police Department and State Police Detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The assigned Assistant District Attorneys are Suzanne Kontz and Mary O’Neill. The Victim Witness Advocate is Cassandra Aviles.

The names of Cavallaro’s parents haven’t been made public.

Cavallaro was identified as the suspected shooter and taken into custody by police without incident.

Cavallaro is the “significant other” of a resident who lives at the home where the 911 call originated but she resides at a different address on Washington Street, according to Ryan.

Investigators later confirmed that the two shooting victims, a 56-year-old woman who died and a 56-year-old man who was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening shooting injuries, were Cavallaro's parents. Cavallaro's father died at the hospital, Ryan's office said later Thursday.

They have since been identified as Thelma Tatten and Mark Cavallaro.

The father of Cavallaro’s boyfriend told police that she may have gotten the murder weapon from a safe in his home, according to a police report obtained by The Boston Globe. He told officials that his son also owned guns and there were at least four more weapons in the house.

As she was being arrested, Cavallaro told police that she was “thinking about suicide,” according to the Globe. She registered as being at “medium risk” on a suicide evaluation form.

A Facebook page that appears to have belonged to Cavallaro’s parents raised money for a mental illness fundraiser in April. The fundraiser, appearing under Mark Cavallaro’s name, was gathering donations for a walk organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
