*Status Check Conference/Pretrial Hearing (@ 8:30am ET) - FL - Taylen Mosley (2) went missing Mar. 30, 2023 after a wellness check, LE found his mother Pashun Jeffery (20/now 22) dead in the apartment with Taylen missing, but found Mar. 31, 2023 in a lake in the jaws of an alligator. *Thomas Isaiah Mosley (21/now 22) arrested (4/1/23), indicted (4/27/23), charged & arraigned (5/5/23) with 2 counts of 1st degree felony Capital murder. Plead not guilty.
No Trial set-due to incompetency.

10/11/23 Update: Acknowledgment of additional Discovery (65). Order committing defendant to DCF (state hospital) (63). Found incompetent-restorable (62). Status check conference hearing was held. Mosley is headed to the state psychiatric hospital. A judge ruled Thomas Mosley incompetent to stand trial right now Wednesday morning after reviewing reports from two court appointed doctors who recommended that the state hospital in Chattahoochee is the best place for him right now. "I find that Mr. Mosley is not competent to proceed, but he is restorable," Judge Susan St. John said to the courtroom. There will be a status check conference hearing on 4/22/24 @ 8:30am to see if Mosley is competent.

The man accused of killing his two-year-old son and stabbing the child’s mother to death was back in court Friday for a second competency hearing.

The man accused of killing his two-year-old son and stabbing the child’s mother to death was back in court Friday for a second competency hearing.

Thomas Mosley spent six months at the state hospital after a judge found him incompetent to stand trial last fall. Friday, Dr. Theresa L. Ascheman Jones, who evaluated Mosley at the facility, testified that she found Mosley competent to proceed in January.

The judge on Friday ruled that 13 calls Mosley made in jail from February 2024 when he got back from the state hospital to as recently as June 8, 2024, are permitted. The state argued Mosley’s conversations with his mother and brother totaling nearly six hours show his interactions and behavior. Defense attorneys, however, said the phone calls are not relevant to his competency.

There will be more testimony from doctors at the second half of the competency hearing next Friday. That’s when the judge is expected to decide if Mosley is competent to stand trial.
