Karen Read has been charged with second-degree murder, motor vehicle manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision in the January 2022 death of her off-duty Boston Police Officer boyfriend John O'Keefe outside a Canton, Mass., home.

She's pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Leading up to his death, the couple of two years reportedly spent the night drinking and bar hopping with friends before Read, 43, dropped O'Keefe, 46, off at the home of a fellow off-duty police officer for an after-party, PEOPLE previously reported.

Prosecutors say as O'Keefe exited the vehicle, Read allegedly proceeded to make a three-point turn during a winter storm, striking her boyfriend in the process before driving off.

After O'Keefe failed to return home hours later, Read allegedly went looking for him, before finding his body in a snowbank outside the home where she allegedly left him.

ADMIN NOTE:

It is clear in Websleuths TOS that name variations are not allowed.

Whether you like her or not, it is disrespectful to the court to refer to the judge as "Auntie Bev" or "Bev".

She is Judge Beverly Cannone (or Judge Cannone, or simply the Judge).

NAME CALLING and DEROGATORY NAME VARIATIONS

In an effort to keep case discussion constructive, name calling, general bashing and using derogatory name variations for any of the case players is not tolerated. @SueNBCBoston

The standard professional journalism policy & practice for videos & photos posted on social media is that it cannot broadcasted or posted without first confirming its authenticity & getting permission for use from the person who recorded, and owns the rights to the video.1/

This applies to weather videos, assault videos, car crash videos, prom pictures, assault videos, etc.We can get sued for copyright violation, or it could be a deep fake, or it could be 12 years old, or a million other reasons.2/

And, I know you want it reported RIGHT NOW but a careful confirmation process is essential to avoiding mistakes, lawsuits, harm and publishing dis-information.If it’s news today, it will be news tomorrow.Better to take the time to confirm than rush to an error.3/

If you don’t care if what you see is true and accurate, get your news from social and blogs. If you do care, get your news from sources working to confirm and get it right. If the subjects won’t speak to us on the record, we can’t report it.4/

And believe me, we all want the scoop.5.

Good morning from inside the courtroom in the Commonwealth vs. Karen Read. #Boston25

-Today is the 4th day of jury deliberations on the Friday before the 4th of July week.

-Judge said jury can set their own timetable for leaving early, staying late.

-Defense team is getting dropped off on the left side of the courthouse and going straight in with police escort.

Remember, the Casey Anthony jury deliberated over 4th of July week (verdict was 7/5, had to look it up).
Thanks for that reminder. Every deliberation, there's always the prognostication that a jury will want to wait for lunch, won't let it go through the weekend, won't want to go through the [insert holiday] week.

I've always wondered if jury members really behaved that strategically around the day of the week/holiday/etc.

I'm saying it's odd, and stands out from the other step lengths for JO, and is an altogether different pace for a short burst over 80' than what was noted three minutes earlier over 170'. And that it's a sub 10 minute mile pace for a 6'2" male, and around a 9 minute pace for a 5'6" woman. So it's pretty quick for the average middle aged person. Someone, whoever had the phone, was at least jogging if not sprinting over that distance. For perspective: on a treadmill, setting it at 6.1 mph is a sub 10 minute mile pace and 6.6 is about a 9 minute mile pace. It's not walking that's for sure. I suspect he had the phone at that time, and was running for a short distance but why and from who/what is the question. IMO
