Maxwell’s appeal will go before a three-judge panel in Manhattan on 12 March, as her lawyers contest her conviction on five charges of recruiting and grooming four underage girls for the late paedophile financier to abuse between 1994 and 2004.

Ahead of the court appearance, Maxwell’s brother Ian Maxwell told The Independent: “The American justice system and the court were biased against my sister and she didn’t get a fair trial. Her jury was not impartial: three of them had been sexually abused but did not disclose this, depriving the defence of the opportunity to challenge their selection as jurors. How could they fairly and dispassionately consider evidence in a sex abuse case?”

The US government has urged the appeals court to uphold her conviction, with prosecutors saying: “The government’s evidence at trial established that over the course of a decade, Maxwell facilitated and participated in the sexual abuse of multiple young girls.”

Why are there never any punishments for jurors who break the rules. There is no deterrent.

If her appeal is successful Carolyn won't be able to testify again
She was the solidest accuser

Her appeal, which is taking place at a federal court in New York, is set to begin on Tuesday. Lawyers have argued that if her conviction is not overturned then she should be given a new trial or re-sentenced.

It is expected that during the appeal, Maxwell will claim that the four victims who testified against her at trial had “faded, distorted and motivated memories”. Her lawyers will argue that she was prosecuted as a “proxy” for Epstein to satisfy public outrage after his death in custody while awaiting trial in 2019.

The Associated Press reported that she will also claim that prosecutors breached a non-prosecution agreement, charged her with “time-barred offenses”, and recast Epstein’s crimes to make her the culprit.

They further allege that prosecutors teamed up with victims who were suing Epstein and Maxwell “whose interests were financial, to develop new allegations.”

“For almost 20 years, the story of how Jeffrey Epstein victimized some of Palm Beach County’s most vulnerable has been the subject of much anger and has at times diminished the public’s perception of the criminal justice system,” Delgado wrote.

“Epstein is indeed notorious and infamous and is widely reported to have flaunted his wealth while cavorting with politicians, billionaires, and even British Royalty," he continued. "It is understandable that given those reports the public has a great curiosity about what was widely reported by news (agencies) as 'special treatment’ regarding his prosecution.”

In cases like this, it doesn't matter if the plaintiffs have "motivated memories." What matters is whether they have a legal reason to sue, or not. In other words, I don't care what motivated VR to stay in Australia, disappear from the radar, get married and later, sue. What matters is that she has a valid reason to sue - she was a minor when abused and used by Epstein.

What is interesting is that Epstein went straight back to his activities after incarceration. Meaning, he either couldn't stop it because his "business" depended on them, or he was a pedophile addicted to sex. Probably, both.

Ghislaine is likely the victim of some own childhood trauma who was left in a difficult financial situation after her father's death and used his shady connections. Hard to feel sorry for her. While history is full of "honeytrap" cases, most of them using certain targets' vulnerabilities, this is a "babytrap" case through and through, and so ugly.
