WARRICK CO., Ind. (WFIE) - There’s been no word from 38-year-old Zachary Carey since May 30.

Family members say the Evansville man was dropped off at the Lynnville welcome sign. Five days later, his phone was found in the same spot.

They say it’s common for him to go camping in the woods for a few days, but he always comes back home.

Sheriff Wilder says cadaver dogs and a drone were used to look for Carey, but nothing was found.

Six weeks later, the family is still hoping he’ll come home.

Mitch Carter is speaking with Carey’s family Tuesday afternoon.

He’ll have reports on 14 News.

38-year-old Zachary Carey disappeared May of last year after a friend dropped him off near the Lynnville welcome sign.

After he missed some planned outings with family members, his phone was found in that same spot days later.

Carey’s three sisters say he loved to go camping and would regularly go off the grid to enjoy the outdoors.

Now though, it’s been 400 days without any more signs of their brother.

They say they’re holding out hope that he’s out there with his fishing rod and feet in the mud.

His sister Cecilia says after a year of birthdays and holiday dinners without Zac, things have only become more difficult.

”I think at first we’re all in kind of denial or disbelief, because it just doesn’t feel real. And then, you know, the police, in the beginning with search parties and stuff, but then as time went on and things started to get quiet, that’s when it really started to get scary,” saild Cecilia.

Less than a week before he went missing he had a traffic infraction for expired plates, not a big deal from a legal standpoint (case was dismissed when he no showed the hearing). He had some priors (possession marijuana, possession of a switchblade, and a couple other traffic infractions, domestic battery, criminal mischief and what appears to be a divorce) but nothing recent and nothing that would lead me to think he'd leave the area to avoid any legal issues without notifying his Mom and sisters. I hope people keep looking for him, In the court records there is more than one person with his name - his middle name according to the missing info is Aaron. Indiana Courts Case Search - MyCase
