I think @Moonstrawbs intended to write that they were absolutely “hysterical,” but autocorrect changed it.

The impact of this attempted assassination is really hitting me now, after the initial shock. It’s terrifying to witness an attempted murder, no matter who was the intended victim. I was driving home shortly after 6 PM EST and the car radio was saying there was an “incident” at a Trump rally and he was “whisked away.”

I’ve been watching the news since I got home and saw the actual story and am really having flashbacks of other assassinations and attempted assassinations in our history.

Just so dreadful and my heart hurts for these poor people who were just attendees and are dead/wounded.

yep I'm Canadian, don't like Trump and yet ... I cried
this should never happen & I'm glad he's ok

Wow this is absolutely insane. I'm so glad Trump is okay, but it's so sad that an innocent person attending the rally got killed because somebody disagrees with/doesn't like Trump and his opinions. It's terrifying to think that this sort of thing could happen and I'm just curious how it even did happen with surely so much security around at an event like that? Hopefully in the future it'll be considered more and further steps will be taken to ensure everyone's safety, if that bullet had gone somewhere else it could have killed him... so scary.

Rep. Daniel Meuser, who witnessed rally shooting from front row, calls it a "bloody scene"

From CNN’s Rebekah Riess

Rep. Daniel Meuser of Pennsylvania told CNN he was sitting in the front row of Donald Trump’s rally with Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick and Rep. Mike Kelly when chaos ensued.

“Everybody started, certainly, screaming, asking for a medic, and honestly, it was a bloody scene,” Meuser said.
Meuser said it started out like a regular rally and “next thing you know … there was rapid fire,” he said. “It was pretty obvious, after the second or third gunshot, what was happening.”

Meuser added that “a lot of people were very panicked” but “they settled down after a little while, particularly when President Trump, honestly, stood up and gave thumbs-up.”

The congressman also made a plea for civility going forward, saying, “We’ve really got to remove the hostility. I think everybody agrees — we need to cool things down.”

“Very shocking … a lot of people just thought it was fireworks going off, I knew immediately it was gunfire,” Meyn said.

Meyn, a surgeon from Grove City, Pennsylvania, told CNN he helped carry the man out of the bleachers.

“I was at the far right of the podium, where the people sit in the front. I was filming him (Trump) speaking on my phone. Just as I was panning back, I heard seven gunshots in rapid successions, in under two or three seconds,” Meyn said.

Meyn said he looked back in the direction the gunshots had come from. “I saw a man in the bleachers was hit directly in the head and died instantly. … There was a woman who was hit in the hand and forearm, a noncritical wound.”

He said he went over to see if he could render any aid, but another doctor was already helping the woman who’d been shot.

“I helped carry the body of the man out of the stands. They took the body to the tent behind the bleachers,” Meyn added.

CNN reached Meyn as he was waiting to give a witness statement to the FBI. “They want the data off my phone,” he said. “This is the first Trump rally I’ve been to. … You don’t anticipate this stuff to go on, it’s pure insanity.”

I think I need to give myself a little break.

I’m really feeling the impact of how Trump was a few inches away from getting killed. He is a person no matter what.

CNN is saying that the Republican Convention will go on as scheduled Monday, which I confess is a surprise to me. I would assume that two days is not enough time for the Secret Service to review the events of today and to quadruple their security by then.

I imagine by tomorrow we will know more about the assassin and maybe the reason behind his actions.

Prayers for the families of today’s deceased and wounded.

Does it show the victim in the bleachers?

There's a clearer photo of the gunman's body here. Witnesses said he was wearing camouflage pants, but they look like shorts to me. I thought he had dressed himself to blend in with LE, but that no longer appears to be the case. There are other photos elsewhere that are far more graphic, but I won't post them here. He's gotta be in his mid 20s at most.

Representative Ronnie Jackson says nephew grazed by bullet at rally

Christal Hayes
US reporter

Representative Ronnie Jackson, a Texas Republican, told Fox News in an interview that his nephew was at the rally and was grazed in the neck by a bullet.
He told the network he'd set up special access for his family to attend the rally in Pennsylvania. They were sitting in a "friends and family" section to Trump's right when they started to hear gunfire, he says.
Jackson says his nephew was "in the line of fire" and was bleeding from the neck. His family realised it was a bullet after seeing someone a few rows behind them had been shot, he says.
They went to a medical tent and saw another injured person with critical injuries to their head, Jackson says.

Butler mayor said Biden offered full support to city in wake of rally shooting

From CNN’s Jamiel Lynch

Butler Mayor Robert Dandoy told CNN he was offered full support from the White House in a conversation with President Joe Biden after the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday night.

During their conversation, Dandoy said Biden offered his condolences to the city, located in western Pennsylvania.

“He offered anything they can do for us, and I offered the same,” Dandoy told CNN.

Biden also spoke with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Trump on Saturday, according to the White House.

Is there a circle around where the suspect was?

No, but from the various maps & reports, I have put a red dot on the location map from the USA Today article to indicate where (I think) the shooter was on the roof of the building (labeled "Manufacturing company" on USA Today's graphic). MOO.

(Note: I have added the red dot to this map. The rest of the image is from the linked USA Today article.)

CNN is playing a video taken outside the rally, right below where the shooter was stationed. People scream "he's got a gun," and "he's on the roof," in an attempt to notify law enforcement. Seconds later the shots ring out.
