Mr Longworth was just days away from retiring and going travelling......

Neighbour who lives opposite their flat: 'Albert and Paul were lovely guys. It's devastating. They were both really friendly and polite and smiled a lot. I last saw Paul a month or so ago in the pub and he told me that he was retiring. He told me "I've only got two days left that I have to go to work".
'He was really happy about it. He said he was also due to go to Pride in Brighton.

Mr Longworth was a regular at the Shepherd and Flock pub close to his flat. A member of staff said..... He told me recently that he had just retired and was looking forward to travelling more....

Yostin Andres Mosquera, 34, has been charged with the murder of two men, named by the Met Police as 62-year-old French national Albert Alfonso and his British ex-partner, 71-year-old Paul Longworth.

I’m wondering if the plan was that Longworth & Alfonso were going to go travelling long-term and were planning to rent out the flat while they’re away (it would certainly be a good way to fund things). As a result they told the perp he had to leave, and were killed because he didn’t want to go. I’ve not seen anything to suggest the perp was gainfully employed and in a position to find somewhere (rent is ridiculously expensive in London).

There’s also clearly something else going on. Aside from the police’s cryptic comment about “linked offences”, I rented or flat shared with strangers in London in my 20’s (including one street away from their flat) and 99% of my friends were doing the same. Absolutely none of them were flying out on foreign holidays with their landlords or rando flatmates, so I’d say it’s almost certain there’s an angle to this that hasn’t been uncovered or made public yet, and is probably not irrelevant to the motive.

My guess would be that that case was unrelated. The black male involved didn't fit the suspect's description.

JMO- but having used the London to Bristol train route for years it isn't that unusual for people to have a lot of often heavy luggage- the racks are usually full and people will often help others out without thinking much of it. I suspect given the what seems to be pretty chaotic and poorly thought out nature of all of this it wasn't considered that even when deceased blood will often 'leak'; I doubt it was thought about and depending on the journey it's not a given this would have been an issue on the train, if they were transported this way. It sounds wild knowing what was in them, but a man travelling with 2 cases even if they were super heavy wouldn't stick out as being overly unusual, neither would people helping lift them.

Given that they lived together, and that the victims were reported to have been in a relationship previously but have since split - I can imagine this is an argument gone wrong.

Perhaps they were in a polyamorous relationship that had become fraught? Big argument gets out of hand. Panic ensues and the accused knew they were travelling to Brighton anyway so hopes that the crime looks as though it had been committed away from home whilst he's none the wiser back at their property.

But then there were remains found at their house/flat so that doesn't quite fit.

I think that even though the victims have broken up, they still had a strong bond and were living together so one could help the other one in the wheelchair. I totally made that scenario up - not sure if that is actually the case but it fits, imo.

I am thinking the perp was hired help for the men. I'm assuming the couple met him in Colombia but perhaps they met him in U.K.

I'm guessing he was supposed to do household work, some healthcare work for the wheelchair-bound man, and I'm guessing sex work.

I think the perp was expected to do thing like carry luggage on their travels...including a trip to Bristol.

I think the violence stemmed from conflicts around money.

The news agencies seem to be concentrating on other things for the time-being, but Yostin's time in the Old Bailey is tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what - if any - revelations arise from it.

Yostin Mosquera appears at the Old Bailey charged with murdering Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso.

Yostin appeared via video link at the Old Bailey this morning along with his defence barrister, Edward Hetherington. No application for bail has been made and Yostin is due to appear at the Old Bailey again on October 2 for a plea hearing. The prosecutor, Teresa Hay, is pushing for murder charges and has stated that she isn't aware of the defendant possessing other links to the United Kingdom other than through the victims. I guess it's now time for prosecuting to build their case against Yostin, likewise with defending.

I still think the perp wanted the victims to be found in Bristol and hoped suspicion would be placed on someone attending pride celebrations. So, it makes sense he wouldn't remove any identification from the luggage.

There's also a possibility (though perhaps a slim one) that he may not have read English very well, and therefore may not have understood UK luggage tags.

It was said that Yostin Mosquera did require a Spanish interpreter during his first court appearance. I’ll find the source now but it seems to me he was not fluent in english if this is the case.
