It is odd for DM to have so many FB accounts, and I can't make sense of why he has so many. It's not like each one is for a different "side" of him, or to communicate with different people. It's not at all organized like 'one for school, one for family, one for role-playing games, one for work,' or anything like that. He does not seem at all devious, crafty, intelligent, or calculating.

It's possible that he clutters up ten different public accounts with junk to hide talk of criminal matters in other accounts that he keeps locked down, who knows... But it seems to me that he just hops from one account to the next in a chaotic way. Sometimes he seems to get blocked by an ex and then creates a new account to publicly send messages to her. At least once, he apparently started a new account because he couldn't remember his previous username or password.

He doesn't seem to have much self-insight or a filter. He blathers on all kinds of personal stuff most people would be embarrassed to be saying publicly. In fact, when he was being held on lewd and lascivious conduct charges, and we were waiting to see if the murder charge would follow, I had a tiny bit of doubt because it seemed unlikely to me that he could manage to keep his mouth shut on FB if he'd committed a murder. He can't seem to think a thought, eat a meal, or have a conversation without posting about it on FB! He can't help telling on himself. And then he sort of did, finally, posting a not-so-cryptic post about how he was going to unalive himself so the police couldn't frame him. Obviously, he didn't follow through, because he's in custody.

lots of people that age have many accounts (just based on following cases here and looking up FB acc'ts)
most of the time there's no rhyme or reason
except forgetting passwords ...

If anyone could find the documents themselves, that would be fantastic.

Hoping one of the news stations uploads the docs. Or someone local.

"Anonymous public users and members of the general public can view case summaries for Civil Division and Judicial Bureau cases remotely. Document viewing and access to all other public case types (criminal, family, probate and others) is available to the general public only at courthouse public access terminals."

Re: the multiple Facebook accounts- I have a family member who’s almost constantly involved in conflict with others. They will swear off Facebook due to online conflict, only to return later with a new profile under a different name. Most recently, they’ve taken over one of our deceased relatives’ accounts and kept it under the relative’s name.

As I’ve worked with people who have diagnosed personality disorders and significant emotional disabilities- some who’ve friended me a decade later on FB, I’ve noticed the same pattern among that population. MOO.

What an absolute piece of garbage he is - from the article linked by Warwick 1991 above he "almost killed a dog by strangling it." That's all I need to know. Poor Roberta having lived her life as a peaceful person and contributing to the country and then this scum comes along. I hope that he gets whatever the maximum available punishment in Vermont is.

From your quote:
"He was also ordered not to have any contact with his partner, who is the mother of his children pending the bail review hearing."

Asking the general WS group: Is that a usual thing to be stipulated?
Yes, the no contact order is not unusual and in some states, typically includes the subject's minor children. In this case, it appears the partner is also a witness (along with her sister and grandmother).

Maybe next week the AA will surface:

The Vermont State Police worked closely throughout this investigation with the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will handle Martell’s prosecution.

No additional information is currently available. The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Martell’s arraignment. Members of the media should contact the court clerk’s office to confirm details of the hearing.

7/26/24-- VSP arrests man on charge of aggravated murder in the killing of Roberta Martin | Vermont Business Magazine

<snipped>
Police say Martell had been living in a trailer next door to Martin’s home when he broke in, sexually assaulted Martin, killed her, dumped her body in the woods, and tried to dispose of the remains by burning them. Investigators were able to obtain Martell’s DNA from Martin’s body, linking him to the crime.

[…]

WCAX cameras captured video of Martell talking with investigators the day after Martin was reported missing and he became an immediate person of interest in the investigation. The affidavit points to a police interview with Martell’s girlfriend, where she told them he was abusive. Others also told police they believed Martell was “for sure capable of killing someone.”

Just unbearbly horrible.

Roberta never had a chance of survival with this sick monster.

My Mom is 86 and lives alone. Like Roberta, she is active and of sound mind. It breaks my heart, what happened to Roberta. Her family must be so devastated. I can't imagine how I would ever sleep again if this happened to my Mom. Those of us with older parents who can live independently never think it's anything but a blessing. We think they'll eventually die peacefully in their sleep. We never imagine they'll die at the hands of another. I am fighting off tears right now, just typing this.

I hear you & feel you.

Contrary to the defense, seems authorities have solid evidence against the immediate suspect.

[..]

Neighbors went to her residence to check on her around 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, police said, and, after discovering she was not at the Butternut Hollow Road residence where she’s lived for the past 24 years, reported her missing to authorities.

[..]

The state police major crime unit truck was parked in the driveway of the one-story residence Thursday as investigators searched the scene. The Butternut Hollow Road house where Martin lived alone sits not far from the intersection of Sand Hill Road, about 5 miles outside the center of Enosburgh.

Detectives as well as uniformed troopers could also be seen Thursday morning into the afternoon at a neighboring property about 75 yards from Martin’s residence.

Nathan Clifford, a resident of that home, said that state police were interested in the property after finding duct tape in the backyard.

“It’s like two years old buried in the dirt,” he said of the duct tape found on his property. He said that duct tape came from when he had taped some wires together.

“They found duct tape in her house and on her back lawn so when they saw the duct tape in my backyard, it didn’t matter it’s two years old and buried in the dirt,” Clifford said.

Clifford, 49, was leaving his residence in a pickup truck with several other people who had been inside the residence when he spoke briefly with reporters.

“They’re kicking us all out and getting a search warrant,” he said.

Exactly.

"This is a terrible tragedy for our community, and my thoughts are with Ms. Martin's family, her daughters, her friends, and her neighbors," said Bram W. Kranichfeld, the Franklin County State's Attorney

The neighbor, who seems to have been a friend / acquaintance of this lowlife was pretty outspoken in the beginning is just so very frightening to me.
What did these neighbors know from the get go?????. The guy was living on their property for Pete's sake.

How harrowing.
Now, soooo many folks, seemingly living peacefully....have to now worry about who lives nearby.
What did THEY report. Moo
I'm just so disturbed by what happened to Roberta.
So senseless
So evil.

Re the zillion FB accounts: My husband has a cousin who unfortunately struggles with addiction and the criminality that often surrounds addiction. What happens is, she gets sent to prison for whatever, gets out, then makes a new FB account because she can't remember her password and the burner phone she used to make the previous account is long gone. Lather, rinse, repeat. So each new FB account MAY (not necessarily so, but it MAY IMO) represent a stretch in jail and then being released, then going back, etc. It's a really sad cycle for our cousin- we'd love to reach out and try to help, but she just cannot be trusted to refrain from criminal behavior. I'm betting DM is a similar case.

MOO: A terrible pity he didn’t cross state or international lines. He was close to it. Vermont will be benevolent. Federal and International would’ve been less so.
With all due respect, life without parole is not benevolent. He will pay his dues here. We don't let murderers go free in Vermont. Granted, we don't have a death penalty. But neither does Canada, so crossing international lines is probably irrelevant in this case. I know we all have different opinions on the death penalty, but life without parole is not a walk in the park. I do wish he was already in prison for his pending cases so this would never have happened though.
