Betty Cabral, 85, a widow living in Highland Beach, FL, was murdered on April 30, 2018. Highland Beach is a very small, wealthy coastal community north of Boca Raton, located in Palm Beach County. She was stabbed multiple times, and her car was dumped in Pompano Beach, in the Broward County, south of Palm Beach County.
When investigating Betty's murder, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office found that as much as $3 million dollars of Betty's savings was missing. When Betty complained to her financial manager, a man named David Del Rio, about the missing money, she was murdered shortly afterwards. Del Rio had been hied by Betty's late husband to take care of their finances. Del Rio is now accused of moving Betty's funds into his own accounts.
Del Rio had been made Power of Attorney for Betty, and was named as her sole beneficiary. To date, Del Rio faces charges that include grand theft and exploitation of the elderly. He is awaiting trial and is out on bond. He has not been charged in connection with Betty's murder. Exploiting the elderly is common in Florida....
