The saga of Patricia Howard’s disappearance began when she moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1980 after living in Los Angeles for most of her life. A chiropractor, Patricia left in search of job opportunities and a lower cost of living. She moved in with a friend in Atlanta and her family in L.A thought everything was fine.
But then her father got a call. Patricia somewhat frantically asked for money to help pay her bills, so he went to Western Union and sent the money to her. She never picked it up.
Her father called the local police in Atlanta, who opened a missing persons case. Eventually, the police found her car, which had been impounded.

I wonder why they decided to release her identity now? It hasn't been that long since she was identified. The article doesn't mention if they have any ideas on a cause of death. It's interesting she was identified by matching to her niece. The vast majority of John/Jane Does are initially identified through more distant relatives.

I assume her family wanted to be involved with her identity being released and explain the circumstances of her disappearance on their own terms. Unfortunately we've seen family members of former UIDs be harrassed about how they handled the case (ie not reporting them missing), often when the public didn't know the full story. Marcia King comes to mind.
