Man fatally shot in Mount Olympus trailhead parking lot

The body of an 18-year-old man shot multiple times was found in a vehicle in the Mount Olympus trailhead parking lot early Saturday.

The body of an 18-year-old man shot multiple times was found in a vehicle in the parking lot at the Mount Olympus trailhead over the weekend.

Naod Welday, of Millcreek, was shot multiple times and his body was discovered after others in the parking lot heard gunshots about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office stated Monday.

Investigators aren't sure if Welday was preparing to go hiking or if he was in the parking lot for another reason. As of Monday, no arrests had been made.

"We are committed to finding those responsible for this senseless act of violence. Our detectives are working tirelessly to gather evidence and follow up on leads," Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said in a prepared statement.

No other details about the fatal shooting were immediately available.

He was the second teenager to be shot and killed in the Salt Lake Valley within the last month. On July 13, 17-year-old Nuer Deng, a student at Judge Memorial Catholic High School, was fatally shot in West Valley City.

I wonder if this is some kind of issue between immigrants from different countries? I think Welday is Ethiopian and Deng is Sudanese. Are there ethnic gangs in Utah?
