A 10-year-old girl has been found dead at home with her throat slashed.

One of the girl's parents made the awful discovery at a home at Emerald Lakes at Carrara, on the Gold Coast, just after 6pm on Tuesday. Police and paramedics were called to the property but the girl could not be saved.

'Emergency Services were called to a residence on Central Place around 6pm.

'A 10-year-old girl was located unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene.

Wish we knew more of the circumstances. One article said her father had found her and LE said a male relative.
Was she home alone prior to the discovery? Is this a two parent household? What was the child’s timeline that day?
“The man who made the emergency call was seen assisting police at the scene while wearing a blue forensic suit, the Courier Mail reported.”
That sentence in the article surprised me. It is very early in the investigation and evidence collection/forensics phase to bring someone other than LE into the crime scene. I surmise they dressed him in the forensic suit and led him in asking him not to touch anything and to point out anything out of place, missing, etc. If he is the father, obviously his DNA would be all over the home and the victim. However, was LE able to confirm his alibi that quickly? Is Dad LE?

Police attended the residence just after 6pm last night, where the girl was located unresponsive.
Emergency services attempted to revive the girl; however, she was declared deceased at the scene.
The 46-year-old woman, who is known to the girl, was located by police nearby around 10.25pm and taken into custody.
Investigations are ongoing.

Interesting. Mother? Aunt? Babysitter? Neighbor?
Do we know if this was the child’s home? Reports refer to it as “a home” or “the home”. Have not seen it referred to as “her home”.
Did Dad go to pick her up and found her deceased or did he return home to find her?

Hours after coming home at 6pm to find his daughter dead, Griffith University Associate Professor Yun Wang put on a blue forensic suit and helped detectives piece together the alleged murder of Sophie Wang.

The tragedy has also rattled staff at Griffith University, where Prof Wang works in the chemistry and forensic science department.

Not officially stated it’s mental health, but I would be if the opinion that her mind could not have been sound, if she slit her daughters throat.

I have a daughter myself, couldn’t even imagine giving her a paper cut, let alone slitting her throat.

Such a tragic loss of a precious life…RIP Precious Sophie.

Yes, I know it hasn't been formally stated as MH issues, but it's a pretty good guess. As you say, hard to imagine a mother doing this to her 10 yr old.:confused:

So many little girls being stabbed these past weeks. It is horrifying.

Sophie Wang’s mother spoke of ‘devil choosing her’ before alleged murder

The woman charged with killing her 10-year-old daughter claimed her brain ‘hadn’t been well for months’ and that she had been approached by the devil, in videos on social media.

The husband of a Gold Coast woman who allegedly killed their 10-year-old daughter by slashing her throat had his wife mentally assessed last year by Queensland Health.

Yingying Xu, 46 was evaluated by the mental health team at the Gold Coast University Hospital in a telehealth appointment after her husband, Griffith University academic Yun Wang, became concerned about her state of mind.

Sources said the woman, a devout Christian, was found to be suffering depression and anxiety and was referred to her general practitioner and, later, a psychiatrist for treatment that continued this year.



Ms Xu is understood to have still been receiving the treatment before she is alleged to have killed her daughter, Sophie Wang, on Tuesday at the family’s townhouse in the suburb of Carrara.



She says in one of her Tik Yok videos



“My name is Yingying Xu, English name, Emily,” she said in one video, translated for The Australian. “Lately, I feel like the devil has been speaking to me and affecting me, disturbing my soul.”
