I think it would be interesting to see if Farren's sister remembers anything more. Farren was reported missing by his maternal relatives so it's very possible that they didn't have contact with Farren's dad, while his sister probably did. Farren might have called his father too without his...

It's hard to say what they meant, street clothes could have a few different meanings. Nowadays it's a style of clothing (usually referred to as streetwear, not so much street clothes) Street clothes in the military simply means not in uniform It could mean casual as opposed to dressy And...

I was kind of thinking maybe he got into an altercation at work, which caused him (and possibly the other person too) to lose his job. Then he goes to a pay phone and his mom won't send money, so he goes back to talk to his manager to try to save his job, or perhaps to find out when he can pick...

That's a hard question to answer because if their bodies were never found, there's no way to know if they were murdered. There are several young men missing from San Francisco from that time period, most of them have no details available. I can't recall all their names at the moment but Robert...

My thoughts are that pretty much all the theories seem unlikely to me but we know one of them has to have happened. I think the idea that he left on his own is the least likely. I think he would have called home, had work records, etc. that could be traced. He could be among the homeless but...

Another possibility is that he left the hotel to go to work, arrives at work only to be terminated. Then he goes to a pay phone and calls his grandmother,/mother telling them he lost his job. He never makes it back to the hotel. Just another scenario where there would only be one job. This...

Just thinking out loud here... So he was last heard from on April 26, we know he had lost his job at this time. Sometime between April 26 and June 16 he disappears after leaving for work, so apparently he had found another job. So was the Marriott the first job or the second? If Marriott...

I'm wondering if he hadn't met them beforehand and the hotel just put people into whichever room had an open bed. I'm not sure how SRO's work, but since the hotel was right by the hotel, I figured he went straight there when he got off the bus. He would have needed a place to stay that night...

Yes, that was what I realized after reading your post. Until you just mentioned the new info about him going to work, the only account of the group of men was him telling his grandmother that. So I always just assumed the visiting a gay man was a way to not out him. But now that we have...

Haha it wasn't him that my email sent that spam to, that was the first contact. I think his name was Tirico. The public generally can't get info from Social security on someone who is living. If Farren was declared deceased it would be easier. You do make a good point about the manager. I...

@Ciriii57 Great info there! As for submitting that UID again, did Rand mention that at all? Im pretty sure he was the one who requested the comparison from SF. Is it possible to ask him if he knows how it was ruled out? I remember him saying he looked at both dentals and thought they looked...

I can't be 100% sure that none existed anywhere, but I lived in NYC until 1984 and don't ever recall seeing an ATM there. Then I moved to California and the first ATM's I remember were only at Bank of America and were called Versatel. My best guess would be that I first saw them around...

It's usually age 18 here. Most people turn 18 during their senior year. If he was moving around a lot, that might be why he dropped out. Having to keep changing schools is not easy.

There could be other reasons. I dropped out because my mom and step-dad were moving to Oregon and I didn't want to go with them. So I needed to work full time to support myself and I couldn't do that if I was in school. I did go back later and finish though through an adult ed center.

Just a thought on the money in his account. In 1980, it was more of a hassle. There was no direct deposit, no ATM's, no debit cards. When you got paid, you had to go into the bank during business hours and stand in line. I'm trying to remember whether you needed to have an account with the...

Hmm, that's a good question. We know he was already in San Francisco in April 1980, and we know he left Oregon just after his 18th birthday. Would he have graduated already or did he disappear in what should have been the end of his senior year?

@Satch I believe anything is possible but I lean toward homicide. I think it could be a random hate crime or intimate partner violence. I definitely think suicide is a possibility but less likely to me because he couldn't hide his body very easily unless he went pretty far from SF. Even when...

A couple quick things that have recently come to mind. I can't recall now where I got this info but I am pretty sure it was Farren's own money that he was asking his mother to send and she refused. I don't think he was asking her to send money out of her own pocket. I also recall that the...

One more thing @Ciriii57 Im not sure if you came across the blog I mentioned earlier that focused on the neighborhood history where the hotel was. It was actually that blogger who was able to solve the mystery of the remains being listed at an address that didn't exist. He remembered when the...
