I tend to agree that the public defender is just doing her lawyerly job of delay and obfuscation ;) but not the cause of this prolonged lapse. I’m more worried about the possibility that either something messy or uncertain has arisen with the forensic genealogy/DNA work, or else a 2nd perp is...

gee, I keep reading news pieces about the wine bottle with palm print and fingerprints as a key piece of evidence, but I barely recall this ever being mentioned before, instead it was always about the rum bottle (murder weapon) with touch DNA… very confusing… also there are references to “liquor...

yes, at the time of MESO’s arrest it was explained that forensic genealogy was used by a Maryland LE officer to crack the case (though I was never clear if the officer had acted on his own out of interest in the case, or if CHPD had specifically solicited his assistance?)

Yeah, they’re listing the article as updated today, but in my reading I couldn’t tell what had been changed or added to the original??? They’re still referring (mistakenly?) to the rum bottle as a wine bottle. Maybe a legal mind out there can explain if the public defender’s actions is likely...

A new piece from the News & Observer today: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/crime/article257547083.html Has some updated tidbits (about further evidence LE sought), though not clear to me that it adds much to what we already know, nor explains why it took this long to divulge such bits...

Several reporters and local outlets have followed this case closely from the beginning. I previously contacted individuals (via email) at 2 TV stations, a radio station, the UNC student paper, News&Observer, Durham Herald, and The Independent, asking if they have any news/updates on the case...

Well, personally I’ve always felt there were 2 perps, in this instance the 2nd being a work colleague, relative, or friend (who’s name we’ve never heard) of Olivares, and again, if that turns out to be the case, it will be interesting to see how that affects the charges against MESO. If any...

interesting point, but I just looked again at the Durham County Sheriff's Office incarcerated page and he is ONLY listed for "first degree murder"; plenty of inmates are listed with multiple charges.

Yup, a bit bewildering (not just that LE/courts have said nothing for 4 months, but that press/journalists are asking no questions???). Can only imagine that, as the investigation is ongoing, police are anticipating further arrests, and perhaps such arrests may alter the charges finally filed...

Thanks Prairie, for all the clarifying info on court proceedings. As far as the bag, that is a HUGE enigma that we have discussed (argued over) at length, people split over whether MESO could have written those words. His touch DNA was on the pen, so there’s THAT. But perhaps he only wrote one...

Hi PrairieWind… you’re listed as a “verified attorney” so just wondering if maybe you can address some questions I’m still unclear on: Following a preliminary hearing (as in this case) in which charges are read, is there some sort of time limit on how long it can take before an arraignment...

well, it was more than just mechanics & style of the text that some found suspicious... as I recall (but don't have time to go back and doublecheck right now), some of Faith's friends said she was actually 'over' Ty and decoupling from that relationship, while the text reads as if it's very much...

Thanks for that, BUT the concern back at the time that Ty’s name got involved I believe was that HE might be the perp, or otherwise involved, and that he might’ve been present in the apt. that morning, sending the loving texts to himself on Faith’s phone to throw authorities off. Again, this is...

Sorry to muddy up the waters even more, but all this talk about the morning of the murder reminded me of the odd text messages Faith supposedly sent to her on-again-off-again bf Ty McNeil that morn (…except that some people didn’t feel like the texts were written in Faith’s usual style?)...

just to clarify and partially agree, CeCe Moore started working with Parabon in 2018 (working on her own and with others before that), and I think CHPD was thanking Parabon solely for their phenotypic profile work (which is a cheaper offshoot, I believe, of their forensic genealogy), not for any...

yes, that 'preview' is why I pointed the show out, especially given the odd delay in court hearing or any other news... I don't know if it's just hype or clickbait, nor know anything about what sort of treatment the series "Real Life Nightmare" does, but hoping someone will watch and let us know...

I don’t get cable nor streaming, etc. and don’t know anything about Atlanta-based HLNTV, but they tweeted out a show today that they will have on Sunday night at 9 on the case, in case anyone wants and is able to watch: https://twitter.com/HLNTV/status/1469314710919127040

I don't think it adds much to the case itself or our discussion here, but will just note that CeCe Moore of Parabon tweeted today about a thank you note (dated Nov. 5) from Chapel Hill Police for the assistance rendered on the case: https://twitter.com/CeCeLMoore/status/1469064335129399298 (the...

Sorry I don't have time to try looking this up but I believe it was actually in one of Police Lt. Lehew's interviews where it's mentioned that (according to KR) the rum bottle was usually kept in the kitchen. Anyone else recall that?

Agreed… will just reiterate again how bizarre I find all of this… both the court delay itself AND the silence of the press covering the case??? Again, my only guess (and only a guess) is that LE have an ongoing investigation pursuing other leads/connections, and then the question is, IF there...
