Australia Australia - Marion Barter, 51, missing after trip to UK, Jun 1997 #2

See that’s so interesting because to me Mrs Remakel sounded like she was being a bit fake. I think we all bring our own perceptions of different behaviours to the table and interpret things in different ways. Agree that Alison had a very aggressive approach.

This is an excellent point. I listened to a podcast series (the name of which escapes me right now) about how the rise of online *advertiser censored* has totally changed the sexual mores of a whole generation.

Thanks for this, I just rewatched this after first seeing it last week. I am now thinking that it's possible he did this as a ha ha funny joke for Grace's benefit. I did a bit of online dating back in the day and there is always that moment where you first see each other in real life which is a...

Australia Australia - Marion Barter, 51, missing after trip to UK, Jun 1997 #2

Well I just spent the last two hours reading over the last two months of posts. I had been thinking for a couple of months how odd it was that no one was posting in the Marion Barter websleuths thread. Turns out I just hadn't turned on alerts for thread #2. Ha, what a dork! Anyway, am halfway...

You know what though, there have been a few women go missing out that way so his phrasing is wrong but maybe he was talking about this Women vanishing in ‘eerie’ circumstances

This is really insightful, thanks for the post. Particularly the stuff about how common choking is. That makes me think that grace might not have even been into it but that the accused thought it was a legit excuse for what happened because it’s so common in his world.

RSBM. Yes, but I read that as a short time until unconsciousness, but then sustained strangulation would have to carry on for minutes after that before death occurs. i.e. he would HAVE to notice she's unconscious while he's still strangling her for minutes.

I Personally don't see the resemblance but if she had been using drugs then her weight and appearance could have changed markedly anyway. If you feel strongly about it then I say submit it.

This hopefully brings it all home for the jury. The brutal reality of strangulation until death. Death doesn’t happen without the strangler realising that something is terribly wrong. It’s not like he was just ‘holding her neck’ and then suddenly she’s dead. I can’t imagine what her parents...

Just watched the second interview. How about the fake crying!! That detective shows huge restraint to not punch him in the face or yell at him.

My guess is they were a decoy purchase. He didn’t want to stick out in the sales assistants mind as someone who came in and bought a shovel because that could seem suspicious. So he bought something else random to make it look like he had a couple of items to pick up from the hardware store, a...

I have to say (god this makes me sound old) young people today seem so much more open and forward about their sexual likes and dislikes. This whole thing of chatting about what kind of stuff you’re into before having sex for the first time with someone never happened in my day! The other young...

Exactly! He completely skips it. I’m really concerned about him getting off on man slaughter. I can see the jury struggling with the possibility of it being accidental. I just hope his activity after the fact has been enough to mitigate that.

No it’s not normal. I think there has been massive interest in this case though and it’s probably the first time we’ve had a case with this kind of digital evidence, combined with the level of public interest, in the age of immediate online news reporting on the trip in real time. I do think the...
