I'm torn on it . For the family's sake, I'd have liked the judge to threaten to slap a Hannibal Lecter mask on him if he couldn't put on his big-boy pants and control his emotions.
On the other hand, good for the jury to see that.
Interesting to contrast him with the Colonel; the Colonel...
If anyone wants to see a jury charge / deliberation / announcement of finding / sentencing, etc. in action, see this story on the trial of the man accused of killing Ottawa police officer Eric Czapnik.
It was over very quickly, about 9 hours. If you read through the tweets in the Twitter box...
There was a pic of the crown attorneys posted before - here's a closer-up photo if anyone is curious:

I haven't seen so much of Gowdey, mostly pictures of Carnegie. Carnegie seems to have done a...
Really? I think they're putting their faith in cold, hard evidence - lots of it.
I find it comforting, when you compare Bernardo/Homolka with this case - she didn't get a sweetheart deal, out of some dated assumption that women could never be so cruel. She's paying - no concessions, no...
"One female juror appeared close to tears, but in his prisoner’s box, the defendant seemed less interested, sometimes sitting with his eyes half closed. As pictures of the hammer incisions were displayed, he at one point suppressed a yawn."...
Wow, what a day - I feel like a weight has been lifted. The Crown was relentless, just like I'd hoped they would be.
The only other trial I've followed this closely was the Colonel, and there wasn't much of a defence there as he plead guilty. I find, looking back, it's easy to see how well...
Agree, Nettie. I also think it's important to consider that she was a passenger, not a driver. It makes a big difference.
I've gone places as a passenger, and then assumed I would be able to find the place again as a driver, because I'd been there before. Not necessarily true.
Works both...
That's forensic science for you, isn't it? Your average Joe thinks he's erased all traces of a crime because he/she can't see it; and then along come a bunch of scientists who say "not so fast."
It was interesting how she testified that the material was consistent with something that had...
Not surprised he didn't mention that little piece of fabric, that was fabric on top and foam on the bottom (consistent with car seat cushion).
It's one of many, many pieces of physical evidence that closely tie in with TLM's statement.
Interesting how way back in the May 09 interview...
I'm having a flashback to the 90s - Austin Powers.
"One Swedish-made body part enlarger"
"That's not mine, baby"
"One receipt for said Swedish-made body part enlarger signed by Austin Powers"
"Er..."
If you were born in the 90s or later, never mind. ;)
Just got to the end of 33 pages, whoo.
It was frustrating to listen to that today, but I was very pleased to see Justice Heeney warn the jury just prior that a suggestion from the lawyer does not make it so.
If the jury strips away the what-ifs and relies on the new and / or corroborating...
Sorry, I know I'm way behind....
All women present who would in early spring, while peeing outside in the middle of the woods, during a violent kidnapping REMOVE ENTIRELY:
- their pants / skirt
- their underwear
- their pantyhose / leggings
- their shoes
in order to urinate, please...
Just for reference, in the trial for the killer of Ottawa police officer Eric Czapnik, after the jury made their finding (guilty) quite late at night, they were given the option to leave before sentencing:
"Judge Douglas Rutherford told the jury he would continue with sentencing immediately...
I don't know that these boards represent a typical sample of society though.
We occasionally talk about the case at work. I have not yet heard someone say "It's a conspiracy against an innocent man" or "Something's not right about the case" or "He's clearly innocent" or even "I hope he's...
You're not wrong there, Daisy. Which leads me to another point about discarding things...
The car seat; I have a lovely leather rocker by the fireplace - so comfy, a glass of red, a good book, or the latest episode of Sherlock on PBS. Wouldn't you know, along comes my fat orange cat and...
