Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #12

If the alleged perpetrator was traveling south from the alleged Mt Clear murder scene the dam is on the route to where the most recent searches for her body have been in Enfield State Park. I think it is possible he quickly pulled over to toss the phone into the dam before hiding her body in...

Mt Clear to Grenville via Buninyong -Mt Mercer Road appears to be about 20 kilometres in a southerly direction. This fits in with the average distances and travel direction of victim body disposal from murder site, identified in this 2023 QLD study (where there is no known relationship between...

Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #11

The article was published before the suspect was arrested and refers to a very specific search at Mt Clear. “Police, including forensic officers, scoured a small patch of land in Mount Clear on Friday, less than 10 minutes' drive from the Murphy home, following new intelligence from phone data...

There is a better image of the light in this older article SA, I may be wrong but it seems to emit a green light. https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/missing-mum-ballarat-detectives-cast-wide-search-net-for-samantha-murphy-as-local-sex-offender-probed/407cbdc3-5683-41f9-99e2-9e444177a337...

Looks to be a head torch to me, you can see the straps against the person’s leg.

Yes, and media revealing to the public that Sam’s iphone is “operational and downloadable” seems a bit of added pressure. I can’t help but think the information about the phone being in a working condition was something police were quite happy for the media to announce.

It is a very specific search area, in my opinion, likely based on strong intelligence: “The owner of the property, who wished to remain anonymous, said police contacted him about three weeks ago asking for permission to access his land. The man said officers returned on Wednesday where they...

It would be shocking if true, but I think it is unlikely the photos wouldn’t have been discovered more quickly by family if Sam owned other Apple devices. Perhaps, prof cluezo, a more likely catastrophic error by the alleged perpetrator would be making a recording himself, Snapchat, for...

Depending on how the attack unfolded, Sam may have been able to record audio/video, take a photo or make a voice note recording on her phone or watch. These functions could be quickly accessed using Siri. She may have not had time or opportunity to call or message for help but any recordings...

I think the circumstantial evidence might be the alleged perpetrator’s phone pinging in the same location and at the same time Sam’s watch data indicated an event ( perhaps stopped moving, heart stopped). They may also have cctv of his vehicle traveling toward the Mt clear area. As far as I...

I believe the alleged perpetrator acted alone but after the fact may have disclosed information or somehow raised suspicions among his inner circle. One or more of these people may have provided useful information to police prior to the arrest. It is likely the police are currently working on...

My guess is that Sam’s phone was turned off before the 11am brunch. The fact that her phone was off was probably why MM was very worried and reported her missing. As phones do not ping when switched off, it seems someone turned it back on for the 5pm ping to have occurred. My opinion only...

I think it is safe to assume that we are not talking about headphones but instead little wireless Ear buds or Apple AirPods. Probably in the scheme of things they are less important than the phone and watch because they (probably) don’t yield as much data. However if they were found, the...

We don’t know for a fact that Sam had earbuds in but they were an item listed to search for in the volunteer searches ( listed under the heading Hazards and Risks) so I think it can be inferred that the family and police believe she might have had them. Image from Daily Mail 29/2/24

Yes I think it was believed that Sam had her AirPods when she left as they were listed on the notice board for volunteer searchers early on. I agree that they do fall out easily and I believe they would almost certainly dislodge with an impact to the head or upper body. The Apple AirPods are...

I think the health data from Sam’s Apple Watch might be pivotal evidence in this case. It appears that the exact time and location might have been known to police as soon as they were able to access the Watch data. It is also possible that the nature of the attack might be represented in Sam’s...

Is it possible that the alleged perpetrator took Sam’s phone to the Scotsburn house sitting property (or a known property nearby) and briefly switched it on resulting in the possible 5pm ping? From Google street view you can actually see a phone tower on the hill from the Scotsburn address, I...

Yes, I can certainly see this being a reason prior to the suspect’s arrest. But now that he is in custody, and supposing the vehicle is implicated in the alleged crime, I thought the vehicle’s description might be useful. On the other hand I can see police keeping their cards close to their...
