I agree with you, I've never heard of anything like this. I also agree that the family is the worst part of this outcome. I am past my blood lust now that she has been convicted of first degree and I could be just as happy with LWOP. I want them to be able to have closure and their lives back.

Wow....I'm stunned. I would actually have rather had a LWOP decision than a hung jury for the sake of the family. The evil witch got her way again while the family will continue to suffer for God knows how long. I have little hope that the DT won't delay, delay, delay, just as they have done...

Stay pending special action relief = an injunction. Meaning that the Court would stay the proceedings until the DT can appeal to the AZ Court of Appeals.

It's reversible error for them not to present a mitigation case. I don't practice criminal law...but I believe that they aren't putting anyone on at all in an effort to prevent the reviewing appeals court from denying their appeals based on the fact that she did get to present a mitigation...

That right has been ripped away from her Nurmi? She has like seventeen "supporters" behind her, any one of whom could testify on her behalf if they thought that her worthless hide was valuable enough to save.
