Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #4

I was thinking the same thing - maybe they just want to go out for lunch or order it in, and asked if it was okay? If JM appeared to be unhappy, might have just been disappointed that it wasn't a verdict yet. Did cmja even look at the judge, she was chatting away at the defense table - her...

Jodi Arias Legal Question and Answer Thread *no discussion*

Firstly , thank you to AZ, and any of the other attorneys that help us understand the trial process - very kind of you to share your knowledge and much appreciated. My legal question is: If a new jury becomes necessary for the sentencing phase, what happens if the court is unable to find jurors...

KatieCoolady Holds 'Court' - The Dedicated KCL Thread

Thank you, Katie! You are very much appreciated. In one of the cmja press tour interviews, the inmate was asked about a new jury for sentencing. cmja replied 'Good luck finding an untainted jury pool', with a smug smirk. I believe in this jury - they are smart and careful. I sincerely hope a...

Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #3

Thank you! ;) This is an excellent point! I think you're exactly right - this jury is detail oriented, and the form/instructions is/are not the same as the others they've submitted - I didn't catch that. They probably did not expect the question to asked in open court (jury asked at least...

LOL But if you look at the lies, they were all were directly related to protecting the State of Arizona's reputation - we know you'll understand, Jodi (wink). Signed, CMJA Jury Survivors

Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #2

It's a small distinction between "what if" and "we can't", but one that makes a huge difference! I saw the 'if' tweet as well, and double checked here: http://www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/MediaRelationsDepartment/BreakingNews/index.asp courtpio Jury's question is what to do if they can not...

Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #2

I sincerely hope the jury saw cmja smirking at their question. Please let them bring this trial to end end one way or another. This is a smart jury. They can consider the law and facts they were given carefully, and come to a decision based on that. It seems far too soon to give up...

Penalty Phase - Verdict Watch #2

If I understand correctly - the instructions the judge read to the jury stated that the jury was to decide life or death as penalty, and that the judge will determine life with or without the possibility of parole after 25 years. Did I understand that correctly? Then Willmott said there was no...

Arias continues giving interviews to the media

Thank you, I couldn't get through the other interviews. Her demeanor is frightening to me. When she said 'no one would believe her anyway', so the words 'I'm sorry' would be meaningless', and the reporter asked her , 'then why did do you keep talking?' was an excellent question.

8 Mitigating Factors Proffered by Def Team

First, thank you Al66Pine, for the thread - great idea. Here's my 'bubble sheet' with scoring. For what it's worth though - I get the feeling that the KN & JW are hoping the jury takes that they "can consider other factors as mitigating not specified here" into account (personality disorder...

8 Mitigating Factors Proffered by Def Team

I agree wholeheartedly with your conclusions, great post! I'll try to detail in a separate post, if I ever get through the entire thread (i made the mistake of reading most of the state of Arizona factors - still not sure where some of JA's fall - Other?). Just had to respond to this one -...

    Aggravation phase #7

Ummm borderline personality disorder does not mean you cannot understand that a stab wound - or a few dozen, will cause pain. In my opinion, the inmate did not care - I don't know if that's a symptom.

Dr Demarte speculated?...um, no - she tested the inmate extensively.

    Aggravation phase #7

Thank you - It's only 62 seconds if you believe 'JA" version, and that it took 42 seconds for the camera to drop! If you use reason and common sense it's right around 2 minutes.

    Aggravation phase #7

Those two minutes of silence JM used to illustrate the time it took for this brutal murder to take place will likely be far more powerful than anything closing argument the defense might make.

Check out the backs of JA and Wilmott's chairs - JA lowers hers.

    Aggravation phase #7

I noticed that too - right from the start of this aggravation phase, he's said 'she'. Although I think he referred to her as 'the defendant' during the actual trial - so maybe it has something to do with the fact that she's already been found guilty of m1?
