VA generally works like this too. From my experience, many restaurants on the downtown mall card after about 10pm. Not all, but a lot.

That's the gap PD are currently trying to fill in with the public's help, I think. There aren't surveillance cams outside Tempo so no direct evidence there.

Coy Barefoot (local reporter, among other things) just posted on twitter that she was not actually in Tempo, though the man with dreadlocks was (briefly). https://twitter.com/coybarefoot

Folks, listen to this. Coy is reliable and an awesome Cville local. I've met the guy -- true, not much to go off for a bunch of people online, but that's what I have for you.

Lots of restaurants on the downtown mall card anyone that comes in after roughly 10pm. Not all, but a good amount. I think Tempo might be one of those, but I'm not entirely sure. In any case, VA has a law that any establishment that sells alcohol also must sell food, so by default all the "bars"...

Maybe she just needed to get into **advertiser censored* place that was open because she needed to pee. Girl hadn't been stationary, as far as we know, since about midnight, and having consumed alcohol in large quantities surely must've made her need to use the bathroom. The only places open at 1am that she could...

There is absolutely no evidence saying that going to Tempo - or getting into a bar - was her ultimate goal. Might've just happened that way thanks to the guy with dreadlocks, who knows.

Tons of possibilities - a fake ID, a "friendly" bouncer, sneaking in (Tempo has open floor to ceiling windows on basically ground level), anything else.

Some women might do it, but saying HG might've been doing it because some other women might is an example of stereotyping.

Apparently there was a witness that said they saw hannah & the POI in the bar (Tempo) though

She wouldn't just need him to "buy her beer". She would need someone that's friends with the bouncer to let her in.

Honestly, I don't have a good theory. I think it's very strange ... maybe HG was too trusting of a stranger, but maybe she was also coerced or tricked in some way.

Accurate, IMO. I frequent the downtown mall and a few times have walked back to my palace (off the downtown mall) at night. The mall is def. not a place where a a young female should fear walking by herself before last call (2am). There are lots of people around, so MANY witnesses. If anything...

I don't know about this theory of "maybe she recognized him as a cool local guy" ... UVA students generally don't intermix with what they not-so-affectionately term "townies." Maybe she was a bit friendlier because she was intoxicated, but still... a bit unusual for a UVA student to willingly...

Speaking as a local & recent UVA grad -- yeah, he does strike me as either a) a specific individual known to be seen around Cville (personally from descriptions he reminds me of a guy I see on the free trolley sometimes later at night) or b) several people around town. Honestly, the dreadlocks...

Only been there once, but as a general rule-- the bars downtown are not "student" bars. Some grad students, maybe, at best. Anyway, Tempo, like the rest, is a mix of young professionals and "townies" -- maybe slightly more townies than the others (e.g. Skybar, which is right next to it).

Also, just for reference, it takes me 6-10 min to walk from one end of the downtown walking mall to the other end at a normal (which is admittedly somewhat fast) walking speed, and my legs are not as long as Hannah's. What I find confusing is all this talk of different people intercepting her...

Hi, local here & recent grad of UVA (so recent that Hannah & I have mutual friends on FB, which is disconcerting but another matter altogether). Anyway, as someone who has (admittedly pretty foolishly) taken basically the same late night walk as Hannah has very recently from a party in the...
