Gun Shot Residue. Basically, the swabbed the fingers of the bodies looking for gun shot residue. Seems like it might be a standard thing in a case like this.
If something puts something publicly on the internet, they forfeit their right to keep that thing private. I google potential clients and potential employees because your internet footprint tells a lot about you and your character.
With regard to maggots, my girlfriend is a biologist and while she doesn't currently work in forensic science, she's interested in it. Actually, we met in a forensic science class back in college. :blushing: I was the only nonscience major in the class. You can imagine how well that went...

Do we know how long they had been separated? and to what degree they were "separated" ? Was it living elsewhere but he would show up? Did he move all of his belongings out of the house? Even things like tools?

My first day of law school I used the word "assume" in a class. The professor spent 5 minutes tearing into me for using the word "assume". Since then, I try not to use that word.
Cell phones aren't vital piece of evidence unless there is something physically on the cell phone. Everything they need can be obtained from the cell phone companies records. What it looks like to me is that they took Sam's, Mel's, and Emma's cell phone as there may be markings, fingerprints...
