I'm thinking along similar lines. I definitely have questions about the timeline of the initial search that I havent been able to find answers for (I looked through earlier threads, but may have missed it). From the information I have from previous threads and media sources, there seems to be...
Fair enough.
I wish I knew more about any off-road paths that existed in the area in 1989. How extensive were the paths on the DR farm and were there similar trails on adjacent property? What time did he actually take his run? Was he alone?
There is currently a Gary's Pizza in St. Joseph. It has 4 locations in the area. http://www.garyspizza.com/
I don't know if it existed in St. Joseph in 1989, or if it was a later expansion.

These two were probably referenced in your earlier lista place called Herk's and another called Little Louie's Pizza advertised for pizza delivery in an October 1989 edition of the CSB/SJU student paper.
Yes, cutting back, whether to prevent injury after an event or because of an actual injury, is pretty rough mentally for me. This seems to be fairly common.
I'm in my early 30s and typically do run shortly after the event (often the very next day, as you say), but the distances are significantly shorter, building back up gradually. 3 weeks is my preference before hitting double digit mileage on a single training run, but everyone is different.
All...
DR had run the TC Marathon 15 days earlier, so running at a highly reduced volume/intensity wouldn't be unusual. 2-4 mile runs are a typical at that point in the recovery phase (some even rest entirely) and two-a-days aren't common. The risk of injury is high.
I was almost 10 when this happened and I vividly remember my slightly older cousins visiting the following summer and and my parents not letting us bike the two miles into town during the DAY, when they had let us the summer before. Everything changed overnight.
I wonder if it was common for older boys in the neighboring homes and their friends to ride into town on weekend evenings and the perp was targeting one of them? Maybe it explains the demand to know their ages and taking the oldest? With the recent description of the Paynesville incidents, I...
This is what I've found related to the property records, not certain if accurate:
Kiwi Ct. 8 homes, all appear to be older.
1: built 1976, last sale 2004.
2: built 1971, no last sale date.
3: built 1977, last sale 2000.
4: Built 1973, last sale 1994
5: Built 1971, no last sale date...
Do you think the previous abduction attempt refers to the attempt on the boy that escaped and ran to Kay's Kitchen? I can't find anything about that incident.
Okay - here is the correct results book from 1989:

DR did finish (P21, 469), but I don't see JW. The 1988 race very well could have been a one-time thing for him.
It's still possible that JEW caught the attention of someone regularly out...
Looking closely at the ads now, I think this may actually be results from the 1988 race, even though it was labeled as 1989. JW may have only run the year before and not in 1989. DR has done a lot of marathons, so it wouldn't surprise me if he did the '89 race. The TC Marathon, to my knowledge...
Thanks Jbrown! I grew up in northern MN and was in the 4th grade when JEW was taken. I've long since left the state, but this is a case that has really stuck with me.
I've been lurking for the past few weeks, catching up on all of the previous threads. One thing that I wonder about is the possibility of marathon training having some kind of connection, however loose. My mind automatically goes here, since I am a devoted distance runner myself. It's probably...
