I suspect improvements in DNA testing technology may have played a part in this. I believe that certain samples were stored pending refinement of testing methods. Earlier testing methods tended to destroy samples

Agree absolutely. The media hype and WAPOL's focus on other POI's would have excited him greatly. The thought that he was much too clever to be caught would have emboldened him.

I have to agree. Obviously the KK attack was different, but the other abductions must have been done by winning the trust of the girls in some fashion. I still believe that he has impersonated a cop or something similar. Its hard to imagine the girls willingly climbing into a car with a total...

It was him...Quote from Tilbury during interview....... Tilbury is serving a sentence for his second conviction for wilful murder. The first was in 1971, when he strangled a woman he lived with. He was out of prison for two years when he then murdered a hitchhiker. When Tilbury was...

Tilbury was convicted in 1971 for the murder of Lynette Robeson and again in 1989 for the murder of Vanessa Devlin.

Bayens described the person as 'tall, impressive and carried himself with the authority of a policeman'. Some posters clearly dont accept this theory but the DNA Technology in 2008 was less advanced and some of the DNA links are very recent. WAPOL has stated that BRE wasnt on their radar until...

Notice I said 'At the time'? As another poster said in this thread, one would think that during a search for a serial killer, some guy driving around picking up hookers with a plastic lined boot, balaclava, twist ties and masking tape would have surely rang alarm bells. Bayens himself says...

He can simply refuse to answer any questions or be further interviewed. It is now the job of the Crown to prove their case

There was no point applying for bail. It wouldnt be granted with 2 murder charges preferred

He cannot be compelled to provide any details about anything whether he pleads guilty or not guilty. The onus lies with the Crown to establish their case. He can quite legitimately say nothing

I think Bayens being told "Dont worry about it , we've got our man" is a pretty clear indicator that it wasnt followed up at the time

Ivan Milat was renowned in his local community as a 'good bloke'. Always helping out with fixit jobs, involved as an organiser with Neighbourhood Watch etc etc. Its all front. These blokes just want to look normal in the community. Its purely self serving

Sorry, my mistake, yes 2002. I still believe it was BRE. It's not hard to get hold of a fake Freddy. I believe this bloke is going to be linked to a great many disappearances, sexual assaults etc, but time will tell. I think WA has/had its very own Ivan on steroids here

Ive watched and read these threads for a long time and cant seem to get past the incident reported by Detective Con Bayens in 2000, while heading up Operation Bounty. In an account in the book 'Perth' by David Whish Wilson, Bayen describes the encounter with a man in what appeared to be an...
