    Trial Discussion Thread #50 - 14.08.8, Day 40 ~final arguments continue~

In Afrikaans Dr Burger said the man "het om hulp geskree" which means the man called for help. The interpreter incorrectly uses the word "scream" so at 45:50 Dr Burger corrects the interpreter who then corrects the translation and says the man yelled for help.

Where did the defence get the 3:12-3:14 time? From Mr Johnson's notes. The same Johnson who, according to the defence, lied and colluded with his wife to incriminate Oscar.

I'm curious. Do you honestly think that Oscar did not lie? Because if you think Oscar did not lie then you must believe that Mrs Burger lied? And Mr. Johnson? Dr. Stipp? Mrs Stipp? Col van Rensburg? W/O van Staden? Mrs van der Merwe? How can you believe that all these people lied for no...

It was during cross that Mr Johnson said that he wasn't sure if the 3:16 was the start- or end time of the call. He repeated it at least twice, but Roux ignored him.

It's not too personal, Suthrngt, not at all. In South Africa the word on the street is that Oscar is guilty. This is the prevailing opinion and there is no difference in gender, colour, religion or age that I can see. Even the few Pistorians I know think he's guilty, but they feel sorry for...

Well put. That's how I understand it too. In order to accept Oscar's version, the judge will have to reject the testimony of Burger, Johnson, Stipp, Stipp, Van der Merwe, Saayman, Van Rensburg and Van Staden. Not just a few of them, all of them. Because all of them directly contradicted Oscar's...

I think they throw it all out, Laf. Everything. Even the testimony of people who based their testimony on what Oscar told them.

You say that the judge expects Mr Nel to explain the first shots? With all due respect, that is not true. Nel, like the rest of us, can only speculate about what happened with those shots. Because only Oscar knows what really happened with the first shots and he has proven himself a liar by...

It looks as if some people think that Nel's "Baker's Dozen" is his closing argument. It's not. Nel's argument is that Oscar is an unreliable witness and his testimony should be rejected. Nel argues that without OP's testimony the objective facts will show that Oscar murdered Reeva. For this...

Didn't Roux also say that Oscar doesn't have a physiological flight response because he can't run because he doesn't have legs? Was he serious or was he ironic? I'm sarcastic. Sorry. I just can't help myself. Does Mr Roux think Judge Masipa is stupid? Does he expect her to ignore the...

The article says that at one time, I think it was during Nel's closing, she turned toward the journalists behind her. Arnold elbowed her and she turned back. If you watch the trial footage for that day you often see her smiling. I found that quite odd at the time.

BBM: Roux can't have it both ways. People don't have a flight (fear and terror) AND fight (anger and aggression) response at the same time. Adrenaline floods your system. You either freeze. Or you flee. Or you fight. But not all of them together. And afterwards the adrenaline needs time to...

You're right. I can't help thinking that if this was a movie it would have been Dr. Stipp's phone number read aloud in court.
