    GUILTY MN - Samantha, 15, & Gianna Rucki, 13, Lakeville, 19 April 2013

Dede Evavold was arrested and held overnight. She has ongoing harassment issues, using an online blog to discuss the case and publish family details--in spite of conditions of her parole and a court order. Apparently this finally got the attention of her husband who was cooperating in removing...

CA - 13 victims, ages 2 to 29, shackled in home by parents, Perris, 15 Jan 2018 #11

Interesting that they claimed that marching was fulfilling the state PE requirement. Because there are no state requirements for church-run schools in Indiana. Just blame somebody else, I guess.

As they say, denial ain't just a river in Egypt. The one sister who lived with them for a summer was many years younger (she went to stay with them during summer break from school--on condition that she get a job there, rather than staying at home and working). This many years later, if we...

    IL IL - Timmothy Fry-Pitzen, 6, Aurora, 13 May 2011 - mom found dead - #1

I forget how I stumbled onto this one. But I have always held out hope that he was not killed by his mother, but rather handed off to some network of misguided folks who hide kids whose custody is either in dispute or granted solely to the opposite parent (usually a dad). This lines up with the...

This article looks kinda generically at what leads parents to abuse/neglect children in the way that the Turpin children were. http://time.com/5109959/turpin-parents-children-torture/ The experts that they quote tend to look at two categorical situations. One has to do with drug/alcohol...

Here's an article exploring education law across various states and the potential to prevent or enable abusive situations like the Turpins. https://www.motherjones.com/crime-justice/2018/02/a-california-couple-abused-their-13-kids-and-weak-homeschooling-rules-helped-them-do-it/

    GUILTY TX - Sherin Mathews, 3, Richardson, 7 Oct 2017 #9

I would imagine that a condition of probation might be that she have no contact with children. That could add several more years of protection.

There is still the reality that Sini knew about ongoing abuse (prior fractures) and did nothing to protect Sherin. CPS may be able to hide behind not knowing who did what. But Sini knew that either she was the one abusing Sherin, or Wesley was. Either way she is responsible for way more than...

IN - Allegations of child abuse at Hephzibah House, Winona Lake, 2018

It is my understanding that these schools (there have been several that I have read about, not necessarily connected in any way) have two revenue streams. One is from supportive churches who support what they believe to be happening there. And the other is tuition from parents. One such set-up...

According to a statement from the school attached to an earlier post, they are a non-profit and file a 990. So, Guidestar should have it.

Glad to see this (relinquishment) coming. But as re: whether Sini was asleep or not during any actual "event" that contributed to Sherin's death, there is a good bit of evidence of prior abuse, including broken bones. Sini was either the perp, or complicit through knowing that Wesley was the...

Indiana has an interesting slant to their private school exemption. Schools may CHOOSE to be accredited by the state. or not. And many do.

IN - Allegations of child abuse at Hephzibah House, Winona Lake, 2018

As I see it, the biggest challenge at present is getting someone in authority (or a mandated reporter) IN the place. And without some specific information about actual current harms/activities nobody can get a warrant to get past the gate. I did sorta brainstorm about the bad idea of lobbing an...

I don't get narcissist. But I do think she is disconnected from reality. So many of her responses seem to be so wholly inappropriate to the situation.

Exactly. Freedom to worship is important. Using that to claim additional rights (secrecy, freedom from accountability) is the work of snake oil salesmen.

Yes. I think a lot about what they have internalized about the world to make them too fearful to ever simply walk out the front door. The DA gave examples of one or more not knowing what at policeman was, or what medication was. Not totally beyond the realm of possibility. But also, if they had...

I take your point. However, in some states, there has been growing awareness of the needs of kids who "age out" of foster care at age 18. A kid with a stable family, even if they move out at age 18 still has a family for back up, may still be on the family phone plan, have a parent paying...
