Thanks for reviving it. I've long paid attention to this case and while I do not think any definite conclusion can be made, at least a couple of people have been viewed as possibilities.
What does anyone make of the supposed "missing skull" (or substituted with another's) that was found during...
A lot depends on how the sample has been stored. Evidence (like blood stains) will survive with DNA intact for quite a long time, decades at least. Not stored in frozen/refrigerated conditions, DNA in evidence is carried, though anything over about 10 years, considerable deterioration is...
I agree. While I believe foul play was involved, some big coverup is highly unlikely. Though silence can be considered a form of it. Whatever happened, it was within a small window time frame of around 12 minutes. That SUV one passerby motorist- witness saw, parked in front of Maura's car, I...
I remember reading about that case. The sheer savagery and violence inflicted on the victims itself was enough for me to remember all these years later. All because the assailants wanted to rob the hifi shop of its expensive merchandise and leave no witnesses. I won't go into what the victims...
It's a sad case despite its enduring mystery. I was attending UMass Amherst at the same time she was, though I did not know her personally. In addition to that, I had gone up to the UMass Cabin in Bethlehem, NH with a group as part of the university's outdoor club. This is only about 25 minutes...
I live in southern Vermont, right on the Connecticut river and Massachusetts border. I'll admit murders and other serious crimes are uncommon in my area, this one old case definitely stands out!
Russell Colvin, then aged 40, went missing from his family's farm in Manchester, Vermont one...
While, like I said before, that I'm still skeptical of this "new" info released by Renner, what if the sole fingerprint was not the only one found in the car (relating to Baldwin)? It seems a bit unclear where exactly this information came from regarding the print (only found on a CD or CD...
I have long wondered about Darline and what role she might have played in her own murder. The striking similarity in appearance of Ferrin and Betty Lou Jensen, who had been killed with her boyfriend Faraday in December, 1968...was the Jensen-Faraday killing a mistaken identity?
The two killings...
I tend to think DeSalvo committed at least a majority of the murders attributed to him. The revelation in 2013 that DeSalvo's DNA matched old evidence in custody of the State was indeed interesting, and yet a tad perplexing.
After years of resistance by the state to test old evidence for Mary...
The likely possibly of contamination in the lab may render further study of existence evidence moot. But, I don't know.
I recall reading a report some years ago, that had been submitted to the court, where the Defense had their own experts review the Michigan Crime Labs work and findings. They...
While I remain very skeptical of this new "finding", largely based on the reasons you mention about a fingerprint on a CD, which is portable...and could be from him handling it say two years ago....there is one thing that did stand out a bit:
This fingerprint from a CD in Maura's car was found...
I have seriously doubts about this for obvious reasons. Maura and Baldwin knew each other, and apparently a single print of Baldwin was found on a CD in her car, per sources just mentioned in above comments. I can't have any confidence in this having anything meaningful to add to the case...
While Ive always thought lab contamination was pretty obvious in this case, let's flip things around a bit here to demonstrate odds:
Jane Mixer was killed in 1969.
Her DNA was being processed from evidence kept from the murder scene...the very same week, within about two days of Leitermans DNA...
I don't think it's closed, either. Any further searches or salvage by LE are suspended indefinitely, from what I've read lately.
However, I do not think this endeavor was a bust at all. Finding the car at least confirms once and for all that it indeed went into the river.
Clues can still be...
That's a shame, though by no means unexpected. At the very least, the (highly likely) location of the Martin car is now known. I suppose more efforts can be made in the future. But still, a bit disappointing as there could well be human remains still in that deposit where the wreckage was found.
Yes, here are a couple of attachments showing the map location of this overpass, and a screenshot from Google Maps, from 2023 showing the Route 9 highway where it passes over Elm Street, looking East down NH-9.
In 1980, this stretch of Rte 9 was in place and had been for about 25 years or so...
Nothing I've read or come across says how she assumed the new identity as Glabus. However, I am unsure if Kinne actually stole and used another person's identity for a couple of reasons: one is the Diedra Glabus id has a birthdate of 11/30/1940; Sharon Hall Kinne had a birthdate of 11/30/1939...
I've never heard of this case and I live near Keene, NH. I have a book, privately published, by the Keene Police department that details the town's history of its police and crimes and unsolved homicides/missing people. I'll go take a look later today.
The Route 9 Elm Street overpass is near...
Those chat logs found on Maura's computer might have clues. They've never been released and even the content of them generally hasn't ever been confirmed, either. Probably no smoking gun, but they very well could hold clues.
Personally I think she left campus with some plan to meet up with...
Also, another thing:
I've long thought Maura's trip up into New Hampshire that evening was at least half-planned. Even though she made no known reservations, I find it interesting that she would get off I-91 at Boltonville/US302. Did she get gas at that exit? Not really much else around there...
