I work in a school and am also a parent to (now grown) children. We had conversations around the dinner table, sadly, about what to do in an active shooter situation. Here in the school, there are ongoing conversations and "practices" just like tornado and fire drills.
I can call my kids or hubby with one tap on my phone. To call 911, I have to open the phone, then click on the keypad button, then dial 911, then hit call. So under stress.... That would be much more difficult than just taping my hubby's picture and having it connect.
Thanks, PommyMommy! New Hampton is just 10 miles from me here in rural Iowa. Small town , Iowa nice. Nice, friendly fella . Age 22, but mentally quite a bit younger. He's a familiar face around the town.
It's cold (down to 22 degrees tonigh ) and snowy here . Praying he is somewhere warm and safe.

BBM ...Not anymore. That is what we used to teach students....shelter and hide. Now, we have assemblies and drills and practices where students are taught to throw things at the intruder and RUN AWAY out the closest door possible. It is called ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter...
This is local to me....I drive this exact same road several times a month, if not more often. Seriously....this is just so crazy! How did this even happen?????
