People come and go on the weekends in military bases/towns. Once you get knocked off on a Friday afternoon many go home, many go on weekends away & others stay and go out. It isn't abnormal to not notice someone missing until the first roll call on a Monday morning.
Depending on the context it means a number of different things.
A hard PT session you would say "that was a beasting"
