GUILTY KS - Kelsey Smith, 18, abducted & murdered, Overland Park, 2 June 2007

Glad to see there's still awareness of this case on the forum.

GUILTY KS - Keighley Alyea, 18, Overland Park, 30 Sept 2009

Keighley's body has been found. As it turns out, important evidence was found at a home down the street from where I grew up.

I agree completely, but at the same time we can't ignore the many, many stories we've heard over the years involving stepfathers. I don't think the question is invalid, although I certainly know of nothing that points to him.

It'll be interesting to see if they can even tie the clothes to the body. I saw firsthand while exploring Kelsey's site that the trees along the banks have all kinds of junk in them - fabric, bits of cardboard, miscellaneous trash - from the many floods that have occurred in the Little Blue...

I would think it's possible, especially as fast as that river can run in a hard rain.

I wouldn't characterize it as having ruled him out, although their comments could have been taken that way. They just said that at the time, they had no reason to believe he was involved, and I imagine that was true. I'm certain that all the agencies in the area are communicating with each...

If you mean comparing to a known set of dental records, (i.e., Kara), probably a day. If you mean matching them up with all the unsolved missing in and around KC, that could take quite awhile.

There are areas of it that are wonderful, and much of the area is just beautiful. Incredible history, magnificent architecture. Some of the wealthiest families in the country live in KCMO. But that sector of the population that believes violence is the answer to their problems ruins it...

That's OK, I definitely understand long days. Believe me, it gives me no pleasure to describe a part of my community that way. But it seems that every time I think they can't do anything over there to make it worse, they figure out a way to prove me wrong. The violence that takes place in...

Certainly could be. And once detached, it could have traveled a very long way on its own. I won't be surprised if they don't find any more of the body. I hope I'm wrong.

Yes, here it's usually a case of finding a body (often by fishermen) and then trying to figure out who it was, as opposed to knowing someone's there but can't find them.

Yeah, possibly. Although, I'd like to have a dollar for every body I've heard of being found in the Little Blue. KC has many rivers including a couple of major ones running through it. They seem to be crime magnets. Just before we were married, my wife's car was stolen (for the stereo)...

It's the same river, just north of Longview Lake instead of south where Kelsey was found. You can get a satellite view here: http://tinyurl.com/3xakkc. That's 78 crossing the river. You can follow the river to the south-southwest to Longview Lake. The Little Blue varies from almost dry to a...

Thank you for your kind words, LB and Busylady! As the crow flies, the skull site is exactly 19.2 miles from Kelsey's site, and exactly 24 miles from Belton High School. On the roads (most direct route), I calculate 34.7 miles and 39 minutes drive time from the high school to the skull site...

Do you think I'm talking about Kara or her family? I assure you I'm not; I was merely answering a question that was asked.

I see. Well, I've lived here for quite a long time now. There are more and more areas where the police will not even go at night. The courts spent 20+ years trying to figure out a way to fix the school system (because the district couldn't do it by itself), and they finally gave up. These...

It's not horrible if it's the truth.

News for me? The question was asked, what's going on in Kansas City. I just answered the question based on what I've seen for 43 years of living not far from there. I'm certainly not saying it's OK for anyone to go missing; anyone who knows me will tell you how I feel about crimes against...

Oh, WAY over a hundred a year. And every year beats the year before. It's a combination of things - an inordinately high percentage of stupid, trashy people (sorry, it's just the truth), gangs, families in their 3rd generation of living entirely on welfare, the most unimaginably corrupt and...
