I wonder if they are really working on a sexually motivated liaison/abduction scenario and think the attacker may already be familiar with certain areas of the forest given its use as a dogging site.
I did consider the phone being deliberately thrown into the back of the bin lorry whilst the driver wasn't looking at one stage - but dismissed it - not sure that's even possible.
Also, don't forget the lorry driver is supposed to lift the lid and check for people sleeping rough - although he might have forgotten. Would this have dislodged any phone - don't know.
