I think in exchange for pleading guilty, they might offer him 30 years. If he were to be found guilty at trial, he could potentially get life. I was thinking maybe his family changed attorneys in hopes that Liam will come clean and have a shot at getting out by time hes 50.

This article mentions that the June 18 court date is McAtasneys last chance to take a plea bargain. I really hope they dont offer him only 30 years in exchange for a guilty plea...

It's not definite that he's getting 20 years. The sentencing is scheduled for late July. I believe his lawyer is trying to get him 10 years. I'm not sure whether or not he can appeal the sentence he receives.
