Laura Babcock Murder Trial - *GUILTY*

How does a person update Wikipedia? I read that first degree murder convictions without a body or a confession are very rare. Wikipedia lists only two in Canada. I think we can now add a third! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_murder_convictions_without_a_body#Canada

Laura Babcock Murder Trial - *GUILTY*

Thanks for posting these! I know there has been a lot of debate about MM, but her tweet reaction reinforces my view that she helped put these guys away.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial - *GUILTY*

Wow, I just caught up with everything . These verdicts are gratifying and satisfying. I hope that the Babcock's can have some closure now and get back to their normal lives, whatever normal is after you lose a child. Rest in peace, Laura.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.12.17 - Final Charge - *Verdict Watch*

I love the judge's response - "bench slap"!

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.12.17 - Final Charge - *Verdict Watch*

Yup, that's what I'm afraid of, too.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.12.17 - Final Charge - *Verdict Watch*

One more post: I also find it disturbing that DM was permitted media interviews.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.12.17 - Final Charge - *Verdict Watch*

IMO it's discouraging to see key evidence excluded from the trial. I realize that the judge was likely trying to prevent grounds for appeal, but still, just very discouraging. I'm kind of sickened by some of this, especially since it could affect the outcome.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.12.17 - Final Charge - *Verdict Watch*

Does anyone know when they stop deliberating each day? I seem to recall it was 7pm during the TB trial. Just wondering if I can stop obsessing today yet!

Babcock Murder Trial - Weekend Discussion #7

I don't mean to be difficult here, but I wouldn't be too surprised if one or two jurors struggle with the first finding - i.e. is she dead. Particularly as they aren't supposed to consider TB or WM. Hopefully the majority of jurors will be able to convince any outliers and the totality of...

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 12.06.17 - Closing Arguments - Day 2

This is so very satisfying, to read Jill Cameron's eloquent and articulate closing argument.

Babcock Murder Trial - Weekend Discussion #6

Thanks, very helpful! The judge will likely be on high alert for DM mis-speaks, since it has been happening throughout the trial!

Babcock Murder Trial - Weekend Discussion #6

If DM breaks the rules and starts giving his version of events in his closing arguments, then what? Would the Crown and/or Dungey object? I haven't heard of objections during closing arguments, but then again lawyers tend to play by the rules - not so sure about DM...

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 11.28.17 - Day 23

because her testimony may be affected by her fear of repercussions - I.e. Job loss - if she said anything negative. MOO

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 11.28.17 - Day 23

I was surprised that the Crown didn't push on that point. For all we know, she could be making hundreds per hour and billing many hours for minimal work.

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 11.28.17 - Day 23

I really hope DM is almost done. Based on today, I don't think the jury will buy his story, especially since 2 of his witnesses folded under the Crown's cross exam. I might have missed other bombs, since I half-watched the tweets today, trying to work at the same time!

Laura Babcock Murder Trial 11.27.17 - Day 22

I don't understand DM's strategy (other than to introduce reasonable doubt), but it's discouraging. I really hope that he is cross-examined and lambasted by the Crown and Dungey.

Babcock Murder Trial - Weekend Discussion #5

I have a couple of procedural questions, sorry if these points have been covered already! If DM wants to call CN as a witness, then would he have been permitted to meet with her over the weekend? If so, would the conversation have been monitored? Also, I am beginning to see a slight...

Just a hunch, but I think CN may appear next week based on her recent social media pic.

    Interesting, thank you!

Would she have to comply and appear, if she is in Poland?
