my experience is that they can advise you not to view the body, however I don’t think they are able to stop you if you choose to.
Could it be that they had claimed to have separated. One of them still held the tenancy.There must be possessions in the previous home as the police have removed evidence. In my experience the council are prompt in checking and clearing properties, even though not so quick to re let them.

I was called for jury service whilst pregnant with twins, I was able to defer for two years. I had to provide medical backup, and I was told if I was only having one baby then I would not be able to defer and would be expected to attend.
