Actually I think I can relate… I’ve lived in small Iowa towns for the majority of my life and one thing they all have in common is social segmentation. It wouldn’t be inaccurate to describe it as as a caste system. I’ve experienced that from both sides. She seemed concerned from the start that...
Not that it really matters at this point, but it's unknown how exactly he got from his truck to his final resting place. It's unknown when he took meth, specifically where, and whether he was alone or not. I always felt it was significant that the dogs tracked his scent to a field drive/entrance...
I'm going to have to somewhat disagree with you on this. I too have personal experience with people close to me and I was totally oblivious to it. I'm not naive, and looking back I might have misread some pretty strong indicators, but based on my own experience I'm not going to assume anything...
I don't know of a single case of intentional "overdose" of a stimulant. Actually I don't know of any case where a stimulant was the direct cause of death. I don't consider self-harm a possibility here.
It's likely a moot point to argue about the temperature on the night David went missing. The primary risk is exposure, and that can happen at temps well above freezing.

Death certificate: Trucker David Schultz died from hypothermia related to methamphetamine intoxication

Dr. Kelly Kruse, a state medical examiner, listed Schultz's manner of death as an accident, according to the death certificate, a copy of which was obtained by The Journal.

BBM - I couldn't agree more. But at the same time, I'm comfortable that toxicology gave the answers I was expecting. I really don't need her to spin that. It's over. No crime. I wish her and the kids well as they cope with it and move on with their lives.
I don't think Iowa has a lab dedicated solely to post-mortem toxicology tests. They probably have a lot of their plate, overworked and understaffed just like everyone else. And I don't think it helps that this is surely very low priority.
There is nothing to suggest that anyone else was involved or that his death with intentional. Still waiting on the toxicology results, that should clear things up.
A lot of encouraging words, but I’m waiting for something more substantial than words.
Interesting that they’re waiting on search warrants now? Surely they executed search warrants long ago for anything we’ve speculated, wondering if this is a new direction that we never saw coming?
Or maybe...
The OP was referring to the current foul smell coming from the fields. They’re being spayed with liquified grossness from the lagoons at Iowa hog confinements. Feel free to come for a visit if you’d like to experience it firsthand.
But did he walk the most direct and obvious route from Point A to Point B? We can't really explain where he ended up in terms of somebody in their right mind just deciding to walk down the road a bit then take off into a field. Nor can we assume that somebody in an altered state of mind would...
This is likely what nobody wants to talk about... If cause of death was exposure or hypothermia, it wouldn't have been quick. He would likely have still been alive (maybe not conscious) when searchers were out looking for him.
