From what I have read about the CC sewage system, there doesn't seem to be a way for his body to have wound up in the lift station accidentally, but hopefully the investigation will figure out what actually happened.
Agreed, the shrooms story seems odd to me too. And why pick late on a Monday night to do shrooms--the weekend just ended and spring break is around the corner--plus you have class and a fishing trip the next day. it doesn't add up...
Your point makes good sense--and certainly is a possibility. BUT, one thing to add is that it was a very cold and unusually windy night, and it was late--not an ideal night for exploring.

My sister is familiar with this location and she said they call it caca canyon...it is known for its foul sewer odor. She said the smell was strong enough that people naturally kept their distance, which makes me think its a good place to hide a body..or the manhole cover accident seems...

The quiet and lack of activity in this case is so frustrating!!!!
Early on, it was reported that DNA from a potential perp was found at the scene...but apparently this lead went no-where since genetic genealogy should have been able to track the perp down if the lead was solid. UGH!!!
