If her conviction in Bali doesn't automatically disqualify her from inheriting under the Slayer Statute, wouldn't it be a relatively simple matter of getting a civil judgement using all the text messages? A US jury/judge will see the obvious, I would think. It might take longer, but I think...
Even if the written verdict is delivered in such a way that HM is not Automatically disqualified from receiving the funds, surely someone (Stella's guardian, Sheila's brother or sister) will file a civil suit, right?

Let the games begin!
I am fearful that the money will remain in limbo (and continue to fund Heather's expenses) if she is unavailable to defend herself in a slayer lawsuit. Looking for an attorney to opine on whether she can be sued while incarcerated overseas.
I am VERY hopeful that evidence from the FBI (included in items handed over to prosecutors, per at least one of last week's news sources) will be text messages that indicate premeditation. Evidence from the FBI should be USA-based, right? I think it will include the police reports of past...
I've never been convinced either way, but always hoped she didn't do it. Such a sad case. Maybe this latest info will be enough to get the Innocense Project involved. I want to see everything reviewed. I have a feeling her family hasn't had the resources or support needed for a thorough and...

Like some others, I think George started out wanting to do the right thing. But, he caved under pressure and spent two years in CA's "it's my way or the highway" abyss. I think he came back around, but was saddled with the lies he previously told in his deposition. You could see the torture...
I think the state, like most of us, thought the case was a shoe-in. Who in their right mind would not be able to put the pieces together and see exactly what happened? Finding this jury was like lightning striking in the same place ... twelve times.
AZlawyer and JWG - amazing work. Do you...
I know hindsight is 20/20 ...and all that .... But can I just say that it makes me sick to my stomach that the prosecutors didn't go through this stuff with a fine-toothed comb to show how ridiculous Jose's version of June 16th really was. :banghead:
