Appreciate Doggone giving various people (including me) credit. I have quit my LE job, so now I can renew efforts to get this case solved. Hopefully before the 60th anninversary.

I'm going to repeat - only 1/3 of murder cases are solved with DNA. 2/3 are solved the old fashioned way - fingerprints, confessions, eye witness testimony. Someone out there knows plenty and hasn't spoken.

An old DNA analysizing technique called RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) actually has proved successful on old, but large samples (size of a US Quarter). An enhancing techique called PCR (polymerase chain reaction) has been used on very small samples to enlarge them. I'm...

I may be repeat infromation posted earlier, but according to an 2002 FBI report, it may not be possible to obtain a DNA profile using STR (short Tandem Repeat) on old or degrade blood or semen samples. The report suggests mtDNA (mitochondrial) can be used on very hair or bone samples, but were...

From Journal of Forensic Sciences - Volume 50, Issue 5 (September 2005) - "Analysis of Non-Suspect Samples Lacking visually identifiable sperm using a Y-STR 10-Plex" - "This study indicts that is possible to obtain a male STR profile even in the absence of visually identifiable spermatozoa."...

Sorry, in the last post, I meant "with two felonies (rape and kidnapping)." Robert Fry, the brutal murderer and suspected serial killer from Farmington, tried to get his first degree murder charge change to second degree. He argued that he did not intend to kill the woman that he kidnapped...

This is a 1st degree murder case, because it involved murder in commission with a two felonies (murder and kidnapping). The perp does not have to have the premeditated intent to committ murder for it to be first degree murder. A robber who shoots someone is guilty of first degree murder...

Both South Carolina and Wyoming have eliminated Statute of Limitations on all crimes and North Carolina and West Virginia have no limitations on felonies.

I was able to confirm (various sources) that there are no statute of limitations for 1st degree murder in New Mexico. But I did find one source (credibility questionable) saying the statute of limitations was 10 years for 1st degree murder in 1965 and NM was the only state that actually had a...

I hope to get back to body site in January and do some metal detecting. But I agree totally with Pecos45, it’s a very, very long shot. I’ve done acres of detecting and in every acre there are tons of metal – barbed wire, tin cans, rebar, buckshot, and every type of caliber...

July 23, 1957: 1. James Cantrell, 27, of Carlsbad found murdered by .22 long rifle bullets along Hwy. 62/180, 30 miles east of Carlsbad just inside Lea County. 2. Dorothy Gibson, 23, of Hobbs found murdered by same bullets as above, in an oil field along Hwy 62/180 20 miles west of Hobbs in...

These show the very rocky, rough ground near the body site.

The crosses constructed and erected by Ernesto Torres are beautiful, strong, and permament. He did a fantastic job.

If I understood Fish1966 correctly, the rides were to the right. None of them exist anymore.

As you can see, the road to where the bodies were found is very rocky. It's best to bring one with high clearance.

Pecos45, I agree with all your points. At this point, I think it was an accidental shooting. I've "dry fired" my pistol and broke the firing mechanism. It's too easy to get causal with fire arms. And phones of the early 1960's had lots of distortion. But we've only explained some of Ct's...

Let me get this straight. CT was friends with Dan McGrew (not surprising – LE are often friends with one another) and was invited by McGrew to go to the body location (still not surprising – LE from other jurisdictions can be invited by the investigating LE and considering that Eddy...

I visited the points of interested in Carlsbad this past Sunday. The visit to the area where the bodies were found was very interesting, but raised more questions than answering any. The dirt road (actually a rock road) is located 0.5 miles west of Hwy. 285 along Hwy. 137. The reason for the...
