Another possible explanation is that they were in a hurry and not from the area. The whole area is rural but the gravel section of that road seems really in the woods. If they were familar with the area there are plenty of places to put a body with a great chance of it not being found.

Not many houses on the road at all. In fact, the whole area is pretty rural. Route 4 is very close and is a pretty busy N-S route for people traveling West of the coast. I ride my bike in that area often, stopping a the convience store in N. Berwick.

Of course you could be correct but, LE has implied that MC made the calls. They have stated that the calls were made right after she left the academy. They also portray that they have a firm understanding of her movements until the boat ramp.
