I grew up in one county over from Stamford Texas, where Cortney lived. I can vividly remember this case because there was a second little girl that was found raped and murdered just two months later from Merkel, TX. Stamford and Merkel both are a very easy drive from Abilene, TX and I knew...
I have a niece that same age that is constantly posting her location as places that she wants to visit...NYC, Tokyo, Paris, etc. I couldn't find anything that indicated Mikayla had any ties to NY or had spent any time there recently.
Also, I think the news article got quite a bit wrong about...
I know that no one believes in coincidences, but it is extremely unlikely that her stepfather's troubles had any hand in what happened to this child. The police are keeping all the details close to the vest on this one, but I think they already have a suspect in mind.

"Dallas police are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old girl whose body was found in a creek Sunday morning.
Mikayla Mitchells body was floating in a creek at Blair Park in South...
All speculation of course, but having done this for almost two decades, that's exactly what it sounds like to me.
You get a weird feeling about callers acting hinky or withholding information, or sometimes even flat out lying if what they are saying doesn't make sense. That information is...
I think they erred in stating that entry was forced into the locked room after medical transported Melinda.
From a safety standpoint for themselves and other responding officers, that makes zero sense.
If they knew there was a locked room that had not been cleared, they didn't know if there...

It isn't always possible, depending on staffing or what other calls may be going on, plus sometimes...
That makes zero sense.
Every agency I have ever worked for....if we receive a 911 call like this, police get dispatched first and medical is sent that way, but usually will stage about a block or two away if we know there will be a patient onscene when we get there.
The entire area is...
It has borne out time and again that the most dangerous time for an abused woman is when she is leaving her abuser.
No one makes the choice to be murdered. And I'm not blaming Melinda for her own murder.
I agree.
I don't have all the facts in the case, but I've been in law enforcement for a very long time.
If this plays out the way I think it will, it shows some seriously depraved behavior with some seriously stupid plan implementation.
That's not what I am seeing at all.
No one is blaming Melinda for choices Steve made. Steve made the choice to cheat on his ex. Melinda made the choice to stay with him after that information was brought to light.
They are each responsible for their own choices.
From what I was able to find...
