Agreed wholeheartedly. My SO is LE, has been a detective for two years, was a patrol officer for seven years prior. He's often stretched so thin because the resources made available by his department are few and far between. To expect an officer to provide constant vigilance over a single...
It would be really hard to get turned around if she boarded at Franconia-Springfield. It's the first stop on the blue line, so there's zero chance she got on going in the wrong direction, it's only a blue line station,so there's no chance she got on the wrong line and it's a straight shot...
I take the Metro daily (its really not worth driving in dc. The city population quadruples in size during the work day, however, crowds aren't too much of an issue on the train on weekends unless there's a home game) and I STILL get turned around sometimes if I'm not paying attention.
Man, I'm out of town for the holidays--visiting my family in New Orleans--but Katelin hasn't been far from my mind. I was so hoping that I'd log in and see she'd be found safe. I'll be back in DC later in the week. I'll mosey out to springfield when I return and take a look around and ask people...
There are no gas stations in the general vicinity of the mall (and that used to drive me CRAZY!) .
And for the person who asked, the mall is a .25-.5mi walk to the metro. Easy peasy. I still don't think she was ever in Springfield.

I'll have to look at a map in a bit and see where this River Rd is that her bag was found. IMO, there's no reason to get off of the freeway from Spotsy to Springfield. It's a straight shot up 95. And from Spotsy to the airport 95-395 would be the route taken. I'm not familiar with the backroads...
I understand that but, trust me, Springfield wouldn't be the place where they'd hang out. If they wanted to stay closer to home, they'd hang out in Fredericksburg or Woodbridge. If they wanted to travel all the way up here to hang out, it would be Tyson's Corner, Olde Town Alexandria, or bypass...
If she grew up in Spotsy, it's very unlikely she'd run into old high school acquaintances and even more unlikely that there would be an old familiar hangout in Springfield. The two locations are not really close, at all. It's easily an hour drive from Spotsy to springfield without traffic.
I also wonder if she was planning to buy a paper farecard for her trip to the airport or if, perhaps, a family member had a registered SmarTrip card they were letting her use? I know when I have friends come in to town to visit family 9 times out of 10, a family member will let them use one of...
Metro stations are COVERED in security cameras. I take the Metro daily to school and work. My apartment building is attached to a metro station and there are no fewer than eight 15" screens housed in the station manager's booth that view the escalators and every view of the platform.
If she was...
The only reason I was focusing on the Springfield area is because I'm local and I wanted to provide insight on the very very very offchance that she did disappear from the mall or metro station. However, no scenario I run through my mind is even remotely plausible.
And if she staged her...
I fear that this may ultimately wind up being the case. There are areas of Spotsy that are VERY VERY rural and easier to hide a victim of foul play; this would make a heck of a lot more sense than her disappearing without a trace from a heavily populated and traversed area. :(
He may have...
I don't know if there are or not. I'm just thinking of the route he may have taken (if he's being truthful) and that just seems the most "likely" area that may not have cameras, since most of the other parking areas are open and there are visible cameras throughout the shopping center.
Okay, so JMO MOO BBQSAUCE, etc, reading between the lines, I'm theorizing that they caught SF's truck on camera at one of the auto dealerships that is across the street from the mall that one must drive past after exiting the freeway. Then, if his story is true, he may have entered the mall...
It's certainly possible, but I don't see a reason as to why she would do that, unless she knew someone living there. They're quite expensive apartments with mostly single, young professionals who live there due to its proximity to the metro station since springfield is largely a commuter town...
I would really like clarification if he was at the mall or just "in the area" because that would make a huge difference. I lived in Springfield for several years before moving into the District two years ago.
The mall is pretty much it's own separate entity in the area. There's an apartment...
