UK - the late Jimmy Savile and the underage sex charges now confronting the BBC

Totally hear what you've written Webnut, but GG wasn't predatory in the UK. He only possibly took what was handed on a plate. I've met an ex copper who, despite knowing the stories and insider info, was quite happy to let his kids go to GG's house. As a teenager I was not GG fan, but...

UK - the late Jimmy Savile and the underage sex charges now confronting the BBC

Gary Glitter is a mere titbit being thrown to the media, he's not handcuffed, and has had time to dress appropriately. Personally I think he has been made a major Patsy, I'm not condoning it, but young girls may have been his fancy, and when they were throwing themselves at him in the 70's he...

Nid wyf yn deall But I did learn that llaeth was milk, as our local CoOp sold Llaeth Cymraeg. (Hope that's correct). Agree with Cherwell, it would be nice to have a UK/Ireland section, but we have to bear in mind we are guests of a US forum, and I reckon a forum like this in the UK would...

A 5 year old's swimming lesson would be unlikely to last for more than half an hour. So if she had a lesson at 1700hrs, you could allow for her being their from 1645 to 1745.

I agree with you italianWSfan, we always think of these crimes happening in London or Manchester or other large cities, so we choose to live in a local area where everyone knows everyone, so become complacent, and 99% of the time folks will look out for each other, but if April was seen climbing...

CRB checks are a bit of a joke, Ian Huntly got a "pass" in the Soham area because they never put 2 + 2 together with the Humberside area if I remember correctly. My husband is a swimming teacher, he has a CRB certificate - means nothing - just that he hasn't been caught yet. (That sounds a bit...

@Rheannan - No, but I think the timings of when it was booked into the garage would have been paramount to Police, also the reason for being booked in - a previous poster said it was reportedly having gear problems, it is a 20 year old vehicle, and if it has run for most of it's life on 2H...

Hi Somerset Sleuth and welcome, I guess you are Somerset UK by your terminology. Me too :seeya:. I agree with what you said, but are kids really that savvy with who's dad drives what car, especially as a birds eye view of the estate shows it to be mainly around greens with no vehicular access...

Fairly recently in the UK, a person held pending trial confessed to a priest, the priest was in a right dilemma between confidential confession and sharing a material fact he'd learnt. I can't remember the outcome, was it Vincent Tabak?

In hindsight, I'm shocked at the ease with which I collected my friends children from school on several occasions, I would get a late phone call saying my friend was held up at work, could I collect the kids and take them with me for about half an hour, this was a regular occurrence with 3 or 4...

I believe there will be a team that will readily available to the school on how to deal with it, I know there was when a friend's pupil committed suicide, but he was 13. However, this is not the same as a pupil dying from an illness and having to have it explained, as a lot of her fellow...

That is sadly very true, females have a far better vocabulary than men, argue and negotiate better: when the man feels defeat in the war of words, he goes back to basic grunt and strength/brute force.

Careful now... those millstones are worth quite a bit at reclamation yards, for people wanting to do arty farty stuff in their garden. Sack of bricks maybe.

I'm not a religious person, but the image of April being scooped up in the arms of Jesus, and in my head this was the benevolent picture of Jesus (with warm background glow) from my old books (approx 40+ years ago). I questioned myself as to why I don't believe, and was thinking about this as...

I heard this part of the church service on the news, do we know who spoke those words, I thought maybe the mother - anyhow, was driving at the time, it made my eyes leak.

LHD, or Left Hookers are rare on a British plate. A few people will return from overseas and register a left hooker in this country, but when they come to sell on, they are cheaper to buy, but dearer to insure. Eg, the very early smart car model around Y reg (1999/2000) were all LHD, as they...

Amen... What a harrowing task, wanting to find her, yet not wanting to Hopefully a lot more people will donate to the charity rescue teams now, whose usual task is to find unprepared walkers and climbers, lost potholers, or people who take unnecessary risks at sea. I too am humbled by...

A lot of the Mountain Rescue teams are volunteers, as are Cave Rescue teams, they are based all over the UK, so I'm guessing some very flexible employers have given them leave from their regular jobs to assist in the search. The Lifeboats are also a registered charity.
