I know that during the winter months the area up at Vallecito is pretty empty. It is possible that there were still a few hunters in the area (I believe hunting season had just ended) but i can't imagine there were many tourists up there during that time. There are a lot of 2nd homes up there...
The other area would be the Navajo Lake area. It is a popular area for locals (Durango, Bayfield, Ignacio, Aztec NM, Farmington NM) to spend summer days.
I do not know if they hang out at the office when it is closed, I don't drive by the office very often. I can say with a certainty that the officers will meet you at the office after hours if needed.
I would agree that if the office was closed and they called the dispatch number an officer would be sent to them. I do know there are patrols outside of the office hours but i cannot confirm that there are patrols 24/7. I also believe the the Bayfield Marshal's office would NOT have...

That would really depend on the location on the Pine River but in general, I would say about 15-20 miles. The Pine River does run right thru Bayfield.
I do not believe that the Vallecito to Bayfield route was ever involved in an organized public search. I would expect that LE did some searching there. I believe the Durango to Bayfield route was the focus because this is the most logical route from Walmart and McDonalds to Vallecito.
I believe very few people would feel enough guilt to risk leading LE directly to a body when they were responsible for putting it there UNLESS they are cocky enough to believe that LE will view it as an accident, at the hands of someone else, etc. There are true cases out there where criminals...
Several threads ago I posted a theory about the fishing pole. Is it possible that the fishing pole never existed and is being mentioned to lead LE to find Dylan in the lake? I believe that this could make sense if something happened in a fit of rage that resulted in Dylan ending up in the...
I respect your opinion but as someone that is native to the area, none of those areas would be acceptable for a staging area for that many vehicles. The resorts are not large resorts.
I am not sure if you input anything wrong or not. I speak from personal knowledge. I live in Bayfield and grew up in Durango. I drive by both Walmart and Mcdonalde every day on my way to and from work.
