Ed Forton, a prominent interior designer, was stabbed in the abdomen July 19, 1981. He died a month later. No one has ever been arrested for his murder.
The stabbing took place around 5:30 a.m. on Gay St. and Vine Ave., a very bad part of Knoxville, Tennessee in those days. Ed staggered a few feet from his car before collapsing in the street.
It is unknown if he was able to give detectives a description of the killer. We don't know why Ed was on the other side of town at 5:30 in the morning. His house and business were on the other side of town. Police have not commented on a possible motive. If Ed's wallet was stolen, police never released that information. A lot of shady characters dominated that part of town back in those days.
Two large real estate transactions occurred the year before Ed's death.
