I think Casey is watching the video's intently for ways to bolster her present defense account (the drowning, abuse, dysfunction etc.) She's reaching for clues, in a backwards sort of way.

I have thought this as well, and wonder if all the notes are merely her ideas on how to spin the story even further as it unfolds.
