Officers were searching in the vicinity of Karli Rise, a heavily-wooded area.

The State Emergency Service was also expected to join the search.

Police have asked anyone who sees the boy to remain with him and call them on 000.

A police spokesman said it was too early to say whether the child had become lost.

Local man Bill Webb witnessed the boy's father searching for him at about 9:00am.

"He was distraught, he was really worried and just sort of wandering around, trying to do a little bit of a grid with his dog.

"Apparently he [the boy] just wandered out of the little play area."

Mr Webb said the father was a local man.

"The father came wandering through the bush shouting out the name and I was wondering 'who's walking across our property shouting around', sort of thing," Mr Webb said.

"Then I found out that his boy was gone.

Awww jeez...so he’s not familiar with the bush...this is not good. Country kids have more bush smarts than city kids. It’ll be like looking for a needle in a haystack though...this is pretty much dense bush for days...literally. Best hope is that they find him close and soon...

I wonder what made the two dogs return without little Jimmy.

Yes lots of locals commenting about the wind & rain on the police post, also that there are lots of caves around the area too

I’m hours away, up in Perth, but the weather is stinky today, windy, rainy and not particularly warm. Great for last netball game of the season and wind up lol But it would only be worse closer to the coast and down south...
