Police appeal to drivers in search for missing Newcastle teenager Ahmed Mukhtar | ITV News

"The 17-year-old was reported missing at the weekend and with police enquiries have established that he was near the Centre for Life in Newcastle at about 2.40am on Friday. It is believed that he was dropped off in the area by a taxi after being picked up near his home in the Benwell area of Newcastle.
CCTV has led police to believe Ahmed then walked towards the Redheugh Bridge and a witness has described seeing a male fall from the bridge around the same time. Police enquiries to establish whether Ahmed has fallen into the River Tyne are ongoing and officers have said they need to hear from anyone driving in the area in the early hours of Friday."

Glad you posted this, We get some insights from the family about his last known movements.
'We don't want to think the worst': Missing teen's family make desperate plea
Ahmeds last known movements are completely out of character. He left his takeaway on the doorstep after he got back from work and did not enter the house. Then a taxi to the Centre of Life at 2,40 am where his last known movement was. There was a report of someone jumping but this is not confirmed by the police but explains why the heavy diver presence in the river Tyne.

No we dont know that. There was 3 people who were at the center of life but they havent come forward and its not known if they saw Ahmed. A splash may of been heard ( but not confirmed). If it was suicide would you leave your last meal takeaway on the doorstep? I would like to know about the taxi to the location, who ordered it and why? Yes Ahmed has displayed some uncharactistic behaviour.

Missing teenager Ahmed Mukhtar
''Following the review of CCTV in the city, police are now looking to trace three potential key witnesses who could help with their investigation.

They were walking in the area of the Centre for Life around the same time Ahmed was dropped off by the taxi.

The three people are described as a male with his hood up, a person walking with a rucksack and a person walking their dog.

Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police, said she knows the descriptions are vague, but believes the witnesses will know who they are.

She said: “We are looking to trace these three people who were walking through a specific area of Newcastle at around 2.40am.''

“If you think you are one of these three witnesses, or think you know who they could be, then please contact us immediately.”

Ahmed is described as Asian, around 5ft 7in tall and black wavy hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jumper, jeans and Timberland boots.

''Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police, has confirmed that searches of the River Tyne have been carried out since the weekend.

She said:

This is an incredibly difficult time for Ahmed’s family and we are trying to get answers about what has happened to him. The information we have suggests that he could have fallen into the River Tyne but we need to exhaust all our lines of enquiry to confirm that is what has happened.

DCI Angela Hufton, Northumbria Police
She added:

Neither we or Ahmed’s family have given up hope he is alive and we need help from members of the public to find out what happened to him when he walked onto that bridge. We know people were driving over the bridge around the time Ahmed was on the pedestrian footpath and we would ask motorists to think long and hard about whether they saw anyone.

DCI Angela Gufton, Northumbria Police
DCI Hufton also urged anyone with dashcam footage to check if it features Ahmed.''

''Anyone with any information can contact officers on 101 quoting log 86 28/11/20.

They can also report online at the Northumbria Police website or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.''

Police believe the teenager was dropped off in the area by a taxi after being picked up near his home in the Benwell area of Newcastle.

CCTV enquiries suggest Ahmed has then walked towards the Redheugh Bridge and a witness has described seeing a male fall from the bridge around the same time.

Enquiries to establish whether Ahmed has fallen into the River Tyne have continued and on Wednesday police said they need to hear from anyone driving in the area in the early hours of Friday.

“We will continue to support Ahmed’s family at this difficult time and we would ask that anyone who thinks they can help our investigation to get in touch.”
