If he was out of the city when they said that and they were following him than their statement would have been true at the time.

I saw that as well, but when I saw it, it was a comment under a news article. That's all I'm saying. I don't know that it matters, I just think it's easy to get caught up on a point we think is fact because it gets passed around only to realize it's not fact when looking for back up. Not trying to be testy.. :)

Agreed that this may or may not be true. I try to always point out where the information came from when talking about this, because the fact is we do not know if this is fact or fiction.

I don't think LE feels that the general public is in any more danger than they normally are. We are all subject to being victims of a crime at any time... even in our own homes.
If there was a serial killer running loose, yeah... warn the public. But one kidnapping does not constitute causing a panic and everybody going ballistic.

If he was out of state and they were following him and they knew he was dangerous then they put other people at risk no?

And while the police bashing is not allowed, that was not my intention, nor my point. Naturally they can't give out all information but they should not be able to blantantly lie. Was he or was he not a danger to the public? Were their initial reports true or yesterdays?

My point is, you can let some information out. Look at AMBER alerts, descriptions are given out immediately. So information can be given to the public to assist. Don't lie or give false hope.

I remember one questioned being asked about why they thought Samantha was alive and the answer was along the lines of "we have no proof she is otherwise." That is great ... did they really? Everything they say and do is questionable publicly.

That said, I do not doubt for a minute that some of the officers involved in this case feel exactly the same way as community members do. They must be frustrated beyond belief. Hindsight is 20/20 but you never want to wait to look back and say "we should have or could have or if we did it this way ..... " That always happens anyway, having an answer as to why you did this a certain way and being content with that approach is a lot better than we totally screwed up.

I also believe there is some incredible detective work going on here - decisions made after that have been bad.

Anchorage is a pretty "small" city. This type of thing doesn't happen often. A person at-large that (violently) abducted someone from a coffee shack under duress IS A BIG THING FOR US!!! I cannot underline that more heavily... IMO, to say there is "no public threat" means to me that this person is either under surveillance, gone or otherwise no longer around to do something like this again...Look at the intense response and emotion that this case has garnered...it should be telling.

There was a photo of a post on WS about a truck stopping on the hill the night of the abduction or something like that.

Does anyone think that was Keyes truck?

(I am a bit out of the loop on recent discussions in this case)

I do but that is only my opinion.

I guess i'm just not getting what APD has to be ashamed of at this point? I personally don't see anything that they have done wrong so far? Now if they got tips or evidence leading to IK and they didn't follow up on those, then yes they were wrong. Obviously they are doing their investigation or IK would not be in custody right now. As far as not finding Sam as of yet, this happens in every city in every state. It is not that easy to just find a body. I just don't see where they have mislead or lied to anyone. And especially if they had him under 24 hour surveillance, even when he was in AK I doubt those watching him were going to sit back and allow him to possibly harm someone else.

I don't think criticizing APD is very productive at this point. Even if they did make mistakes in the course of the investigation it really doesn't matter at this point. What's done is done.

That's definitely true. And obviously the detectives in this case know (and HAVE known from the very beginning) way more than they can let on. I hadn't even seen a lot of LE bashing on this site before today (especially compared to say, the ADN comments board where most seem to think the whole force is corrupt and incompetent) so I was surprised to see the post about not bashing them here. I only mentioned the part in the presser when they didn't know the year of the truck because of how it made them look and knew the bashers on ADN were going to use that as more fuel and run with it. I've always felt it was ridiculous, so many people claiming to know better than trained APD and FBI officials, and in my opinion, the reason for them not showing the video and not releasing more info to the public will become known sooner rather than later. And then people will be able to say, "Ooooh I get it now!" To me, it seems obvious considering who I believe is behind all of this.

I have never said release the video, I can see no need to witness an abduction- maybe a still shot could have been released, but that may not have been available without seeing the victim. And although it may sound like I am bashing the police, I certainly am not. There is accountability here though to the citizens of your gorgeous city.

Many crimes go unsolved, many departments look back and with they had done things differently. This department i believe honestly thought she was alive for the longest time ... today is 8 weeks since she was taken, and their thoughts have changed.

If that is the case why are they holding him for that reason?

GutFeeling, my post wasn't directed at you (or anyone else), just wanted you to know that. I was just explaining my own previous post and opinions. With a case this frustrating, with so much we still don't know, I think it's understandable that people really want some answers at this point.

Wondering what you mean by "there is accountability here though to the citizens of your city?" I'm not taking offense at all, just curious as to what you meant.

I think every community should hold their police department accountable for how they conduct an investigation. This department seems to make the news way too much for all the wrong reasons. These are the people that we believe keep us safe, they should be an open book - the good, the bad and the ugly. They are hired by the city for the people and by the people.

I fully understand that information related to any case cannot be released for a variety of reasons, none of which I am privvy too (My opinion on this case changes daily lol) and nor should I be. BUT there is a whole community up there itching to help as can be seen by the responses to all forms of posts on the internet, and they can help, but they need information in a timely manner. 7 weeks of hearing we believe she is alive and then a sudden change without explanation means something has changed. It's eight weeks now and they don't seem to be moving anywhere.

Waiting until May for his court date and information is not going to help anyone.

I said the same thing a few pages back in the thread. I think a camera picked up his truck on a camera from somewhere and when they tracked him down he knew they had seen his truck there so he said he was but that he didn't see anything, and then he left the state. No doubt in my mind at all that was him and they knew all along who it took her.

Didn't happen like that IMO...
Ik was GONE... he left the next day. So, unless they found him traveling out of state after Feb 3, it was NOT him.

That does not mean though, that the IK's truck was NOT in the video. Perhaps, there IS a white chevy P/U in the video, sans toolbox with phone # and name on it. Also suppose they can't see the license plate. Or maybe it does have the toolbox, but the license plate and the #'s on the box are obscured. maybe the truck in the video is some old grandpa taking a nap.... and it was a red f-150. we don't know

Maybe the truck is in the atm withdrawl videos.

Now, try to find a white silverado in ANC. LOL.. there are more pickups per person in ANC than I have ever seen anywheres else. I would bet there are more p/u trucks than cars or suvs...

BUT.... now ponder, that when he is caught in Tx with a card, defintetively linking him to AK, the withdrawl videos, they now have a name and ID to go with the atm withdrawl.. They go there, check it out, and viola, a vehicle just like one they saw before. Maybe then, an unmarked car sits there and watches that vecehicle all night, until they can get a judge to sign off on a search.

907, how do you know this and what State was he in?

There is another Salvation Army work training Center, I believe...it is about 2-3 blocks behind where the coffee hut is... I drove by it when we brought our car in for alignment and made a mental note... It is on E. 48th Ave.

Thanks Fishermom.

The reason I ask about the homeless shelters is because of a comment I read on an MSM article. I guess homelessness is a big big problem in Anchorage (and elsewhere with the economy these days) especially with the long cold winters.

When there's a lull in a case, I like to check out all those other possibilities I've been considering. I read a comment that said there were many homeless in the area of CGE and the associated crime that sometimes follows is becoming a real problem.

Here's a list of the homeless shelters in Anchorage. Do any look like they might be close to CGE?

Fishermom, won't be long now till Spring and you can get back to fishing. :)

Well I couldn't find anywhere that she said he left the state on Feb 2nd. She said she knew his whereabouts from Feb 2nd up until he left for Texas in March and that he went on vacation for 2 weeks starting on Feb 2nd. She did not say where he went on vacation.
